An Illinois man who shot a cop during a traffic stop is on the run, and may have an AK-47, police said.

Dracy "Clint" Pendleton, 34, is suspected of shooting an officer in Champaign County.

Pendleton was stopped and released for a minor traffic violation, but became "agitated and physical" when stopped by another officer and pulled out a handgun, police say. A gunfight ensued and the officer was injured, police said.

Pendleton ran into a house and shot more rounds with a rifle before taking off in a pickup truck.

While that pickup truck was recovered, Pendleton remains on the loose — and authorities are searching for a two-door GMC 2500 pickup with "30070" painted on the doors. He's believed to be injured and "heavily armed and dangerous," potentially with an AK-47, police said.

Pendleton is described as a white man.
