Arlen Spector to change to dem party

These polarized issues are the only thing that get some voters to the polls.
They had to do the marriage issues with the last President election to get out the vote for the Republicans. Or did you think the timing was just coincidence?

I think very little is coincidence in these matters.

If these wedge issues are the only thing that can get some voters to the polls, then we are better off without them voting.

The Republican party is an extremist party.

Thats fucking hilarious from you. The last 8 years of republicanism gave the liberals everything they fucking wanted with a huge assed government, ballooned deficit spending, and some wanted lib programs like NCLB and you call it extreme?

That's your perception and I know it's a popular one but consider what is it that makes the Repubs look far right?

The Iraq war was popular when it started and VERY mainstream, so much so that politicians in swing states risked losing if they did not support it.
Ditto for gay marriage (which wasn't legal in the 80's or 90's either and no one cared or would dare to suggest it).

In other words the perception that they are far right derives from the current time and not from their actions.

While on economic issues, many of the Repubs have just been weaker versions of the Dems with supporting more government in every area. I could only hope they were even semi-right with some actual reductions but it isn't so.

I said what I did based on voting records, specifically lifetime voting records (as obviously certain years may be abnormal). I judge a moderate as someone who votes between 25% to 75% for the Liberal or Conservative side. Seems as fair as any measurement.
Based on that, the Dems have 2 moderates: Byrd and Nelson
The Repubs have 10 moderates: Shelby, Stevens, Murkowski, Snowe, Collins, Coleman, Domenici (your senator), Voinovich, Smith and Specter.
This is almost too funny. So the senators from Montana are lib-ruls? Webb is a lib-rul? There are more than two moderates in the dem party. Your partisan hackishness is showing.

The republicans are where they deserve to be. Stuck with hard core cons only. Got there asses handed to them 3x. And now long term stallwart changes parties. Reagan is turning over in his grave.

The Republican Party should die.

I think your missing my point. PA is a mushy middle moderate state or they wouldn't be electing moderates to office like Casey or Rindell. If Specter wins the election it will be because the State of PA values his seniority, his independence and his moderation.

Whoever wins the Dem primary in this election wins the seat. With that in mind, I would much rather Specter lose to a liberal opponent.

There are about 10 moderate Democrat senators... and 2 Republicans. And where he got Byrd from in that list I know not.

The last eight years did indeed give liberals, democrats, socialists, people with brains, and the entire planet earth what they wanted .. all the reason they will ever need to completely reject republicans/conservatives/right-wingers.

Bush was the gift that just keeps on giving .. and Arlen Spector is the latest result of eight years of lunatic conservative control of government.

We don't need to take advantage of his incumbency. Tooney is a weak as fuck candidate. He is a gift. We can run whoever the hell we want and win.
Yet Obama promises to campaign for Spector...

As I predicted, the Ds will take advantage of his incumbency. Maybe this was his price for voting for the "stimulus package".

That's absolutely correct.

Democrats will push aside any real democrat who stands in his way and I'm sure there are all kinds of goodies waiting for him when he's elected.
