“We hold these truths to be self evident… that all men are created equal.”

Wow. Hate to be a sticker (not really), but created? All men and women equal at birth? Yes.
So a baby born with a defective heart is equal to a healthy baby?
I always understood that statement as all people born are given equal treatment by the law. Very idealistic.
No.“We hold these truths to be self evident… that all men are created equal.”

I tend to agree with you, but that’s not what it says

Good point. We know that someone born into a very wealthy family tends to get benefits those born into even a middle class family does not get.
Equal under Creator and laws.
But is/was that true in 1776?
Maybe it was/is inspirational?
“We hold these truths to be self evident… that all men are created equal.”

Jefferson was expressing a 18th century vision of natural law.
The rest of that declaration says that all men are endowed by their creator by certain natural rights, which include life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
So I think equality was meant by Jefferson in the enlightenment sense that everyone had a right to live, a right to liberty, and a right to pursue a flourishing life.
It didn't mean everyone had the same political, social, or economic rights.

Yes
Equal under the law
