"New Florida law lets any resident challenge what's taught in science classes"

"The legislation, which was signed by Gov. Rick Scott (R) last week and went into effect Saturday, requires school boards to hire an "unbiased hearing officer" who will handle complaints about instructional materials, such as movies, textbooks and novels, that are used in local schools. Any parent or county resident can file a complaint, regardless of whether they have a student in the school system. If the hearing officer deems the challenge justified, he or she can require schools to remove the material in question."

Given the States, and politics involved, how long will it be before Flat Earther special interest groups with resources will be targeting local schools just to make teaching actual Science that much more difficult, pity the poor kid who once thought he/she would like to be a Science teacher, or any teacher for that matter

it will cost a shit load of money

the people who hate public schools will report millions of idiot issues

some people dont want everyone educated

If they support the schools with tax money why shouldn't they have a say in it?

They do have a say in it, they elect the people that appoint the State Education Board that decides on a State Curriculum

With this move they are allowing those that have no experience in Education nor qualification in Curriculum or even kids in school to challenge the simplest thing that is taught, as I said, just makes an awful tough yet important job more difficult

Because it takes away control from Liberals.

Two things, Education, what is taught in the schools, is controlled by the State, teachers have to follow a State Curriculum, a Curriculum arrived at by State Education Boards appointed by State Legislatures, I don't teach school and even I know that

And the myth that Liberals control schools is talk radio rhetoric, those that think anyone with an Education is an elitist looking down on everyone else, especially the weak minded that the demogogues make a buck telling them what they want to hear
