COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford declared his Argentine mistress his soul mate Tuesday but said he is committed to reconciling with his wife in hopes of saving his family and what is left of his political career.

Sanford, who also admitted meeting his lover more times than he had previously claimed, told The Associated Press in emotional interviews that he "crossed lines" with a handful of other women during 20 years of marriage.

Today on some new talking heads show they were talking about how america really needs to get beyond this, how CEO's don't get fired for affairs, how airplane pilots don't get fired or asked to resign because they fuck around and how we shouldn't ask our politicians to live up to that standard either. But they were also talking about how politicians, especially republicans but not all have gained their power by being righteously outraged at much of the same conduct they were involved in themselves or did become involved in. It is this "our politicians should be better than this, and I AM better than this" bullshit that gets them elected and then they basically say "do as I say not as I do". I think that if you ever once denounced someone from the political bully pulpit for having an affair then gets caught fucking around it should mean immediate termination, not because they fucked around, but because they got elected in large part because they were above it all. They held family values to greater esteem, and people voted for them because of that. Because they were good warriors in the culture war. Fuck em. I am glad Sanford got caught. Not because he fucked around but because he made a name for himself being so "outraged" at Clinton.
