Obama’s DHS Sec: You Can’t Have A System Of Catch And Release

Jeh Johnson, who, explained on Thursday night why catch and release is bad immigration policy. served as secretary of Department of Homeland Security during the Obama administration.

The Trump administration currently has a zero-tolerance policy on illegal border crossings, meaning every person who crosses the border illegally is prosecuted. Those people are detained while awaiting prosecution rather than being released and asked to come back for their court hearings — known as “catch and release.”

Johnson explained on CNN why catch and release is not a realistic immigration policy.

“Without a doubt this is a problem, migrants not returning to court when they are released. A number of deportation orders are issued in absentia,” Johnson said. “Which is why one of the things we tried to do when we had the families coming in was to expand family detention.”

“This is a real issue and we cannot have a system of catch and release. We are a sovereign nation. We have to secure our borders, and so we just simply cannot have a situation where people are apprehended, they’re released, they don’t return to court, and they know they’re able to do that. That’s effectively undermining your own border security efforts,” he argued.

Again for the moronic that can't grasp the differences:

1) The detainees are there because they CHOOSE to be there. They are not held by force. They are free to go back to their country of origin at any time.

2) The detainees are not 'held without trial', they are awaiting processing. Either via amnesty or deportation.

3) The detainees either are seeking asylum, in which case they chose to be there and go through our process, or they are here illegally and again CHOSE to violate our laws. They are not being rounded up, arrested without cause, detained without due process or anything resembling a concentration camp.

4) AOC was specifically comparing them to Nazi concentration camps. Hence her reference to 'Never Again'.

So no, they are not in the realm of concentration camp by any standard. Especially the one the moronic AOC referred to.
