Another win for truth, justice and the American way.

Do states have the right to establish laws concerning marriage at all ?

Are these laws unconstitutional...???

1-day Waiting Period: Illinois, New York, South Carolina, Delaware.

2-day Waiting Period: Maryland.

3-day Waiting Period: Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington.

4-day Waiting Period: Delaware if both of you are nonresidents.

5-day Waiting Period..District of Columbia, Minnesota.

6-day Waiting Period: Wisconsin.

Age requirements differ from state to state...are these laws unconstitutional ?

Twenty-five states prohibit marriages between first cousins...others do not...are these laws unconstitutional

Great questions. I hear the crickets already.

This is how Weimar Germany became Nazi Germany. The federal government centralized more and more power from the states.

Gay marriage, like any other marriage, is a national issue. Who gives a rat's ass what the most uneducated states in the Union feel about it?

Marriage is between a man and a woman. The propagandists have done a good job and it isn't like states are choosing to do it. It is rogue judges.

Not if they are unconstitutional.

So States can make their own laws only on certain issues...and the fed. gov. gets to pick which issues? Big brother will decide...

They all discriminate in some way....age, relationship, the dreaded waiting period that was a problem in some other circumstances, etc....

We have equal protection in some things but not all, is that right ?

and Washington gets to pick those.....

Wassa matter girls....debate get a little too hard for ya .......questions a little too tough....

When Conservatives started whining about wanting an amendment to the Constitution that discriminates against certain Americans.

Thats odd, because according to your Messiah....

Barack Obama ended years of speculation and finally announced his support for gay marriage. (And good for him; this was the right thing to do.) But the President’s comments, and the talking points that accompany them, take pains to make clear that the White House views marriage as a state issue, and that the President thinks it should be up to the states to decide who can get married.

We haven’t seen the full quotes yet, but the ABC News summary says “the president stressed that this is a personal position, and that he still supports the concept of states’ deciding the issue on their own.” The White House talking points include the statement “this isn’t a federal issue.”

At what point in our history did marriage become a 'national issue' ? and how?

About the time the 14th Amendment was passed. That's when it became unconstitutional for states to not provide equal protection of law.

That's nice...it completely ignores the point of my comment, but it's nice.

Now, care to address how it was CONSERVATIVES who turned this issue into a national one with their insistence on drafting an amendment to the CONSTITUTION to make marriage ONLY between a man and woman?

As a nation of equals it's just not feasible or advisable to recognize any marriage in one state and not in another. But, even the President has made his views on that topic clear enough even if they are probably unconstitutional. When our congress decides to pass national legislation insisting on legal and equal marriage between any 2, or more, individuals or the US Supreme Court rules on the national question/s we'll simply have to deal with the piecemeal and heavily discriminatory issues that constantly and unnecessarily burden us. Ridiculous, eh?
