Another VP thread

Mott the Hoople

Sweet Jane
We're getting closer to when that decision will be made.

I'm thinking that Clinton may actually choose Bernie as her VP. If she wants to capture the youth vote as part of her coalition having Bernie's supporters behind would help a lot. To get Bernie to back her in such a manner she's either going to have to offer him the VP slot or a cabinet position as Obama did with her after she lost a close race to him. VP looks to be the logical slot as I don't see Bernie as a good fit for one of the top four cabinet positions. Bernie would probably fit in the role of Sec of Labor or Sec of Commerce or Sec of Education. Any three of which would make the GOP shit itself but Bernie might be more ambitious than that.

Failing that I'll go with my standby that Clinton picks the Mayor of San Antonio, TX.

On the other side I have no idea who Trump would choose. I think if Chris Christie plays a significant role in Trumps election he'll get a major cabinet position. Probably SoS. I doubt he's interested in VP.

My gut keeps telling me its going to be Castro for HRC, I just think she wants to avoid the "Socialist" label they will hang on Sanders if he is on the ticket, and I think he will support her anyway. On the other hand, she already will have the Hispanic vote sewed up, and there is little chance he will deliver Texas.

Trump is a wild card but it sure looks like Christie is interviewing... I wonder if a lot of more establishment Republicans would say no, in the event he loses they don't want to be branded for life for having joined Trumps failed mutiny.

I'd be shocked if Hillary chose Bernie. The Clintons in general are too practical & calculating. They won't want a self-described socialist on the ticket as they go back to the middle for the general election.

And she'll definitely go w/ someone strategic from an electoral perspective.

Who knows w/ Trump. He'd be smart to pick Kasich, but I don't know if Kasich would want that gig w/ Trump.

I have a sneaking suspicion Trump is going to go with an unknown from the business world, or with a general or some foreign affairs heavyweight.

Can't see Sanders taking a job she offers.
Warren perhaps. HRC needs someone with strong positives if she can stomach a veep who will steal her thunder.
Obama would not risk that and I doubt she would either.

She already does well with blacks, Hispanics, and women... Maybe she will go with geography, like a Democrat from Ohio or Pennsylvania.

Party first guys may not want it. NOT sure any milItaly guys with profile exist. BO saw to that.
A FP sort would be good. Bolton would rock it but too polarizing. Out of the box is most likely.

Women ? Not too sure about that.
Hispanic would be good if she can find one.
Her negatives are going to be a concern for anyone with any sort of ambition.
And we don't know what she might owe BO.
Lots of dynamics at play in the donkey camp.

What do you mean by what she might owe BO?

If you look at the polling numbers she is very popular with women, especially up against Trump.

Sherrod Brown
I seriously doubt Sherrod would accept such an offer. I don't think the Party would be hip to that either. He has a pretty secure Senate seat in a swing State and his becoming a VP would leave open his Senate Seat in a swing State that very well could go to a Republican. I don't think the Party would want to risk that.

Depends. What if Trump talked Bill Gates into being his running mate? Trump would win by a landslide if that happened.

I think Kasich is out building name recognition. He's not well known outside the Great Lakes region where he's widely regarded. I don't think Kasich would accept a place in Trumps ticket. He's too much an establishment man.

I think Kasich is prepping and learning for another run in 2020/2024. He really needs to build a message that resonates with the electorate. Running on his record while using the same old tired "cut taxes, balance the budget, increase military spending and free market orthodoxy" isn't going to get him no where. He may be the only adult in the room but unless he can start communicating a compelling message he might as well come back home to CBus.

Who knows. Trump is such a wild card right now that where as Clinton has a short list of Veeps, Trumps could be anyone.

I would be very surprised if Trump could get Gates to do that. You truly think that would give Trump the landslide? I am not really sure people like Gates too much and there would be 0 foreign policy on that ticket.

BO is the only thing holding off indictments.
She's been losing the woman demographic as the mushy middle girls do not like her.

True. None of which include GOP talking points. Why do you think Obama offered Clinton the most prestigious cabinet position in 2008? That's right, to help him grow his base of support with women who, despite what the GOP may kid themselves into believing, Clinton is very popular with.

Look, Bernie is going to go into the Democratic convention with a lot...and I mean a lot of delegates, just like Clinton did in 2008. Bernie's biggest following is the youth vote and they have shown to be as strong of supporters as Trump supporters. If Bernie isn't her Veep pick...and I agree he probably won't be...you can probably be sure that Bernie will be offered a prestigious cabinet level position if he plays ball in helping HC get elected.

You are incorrect about the indictments, what is holding them off is that there is no evidence she knew the information was later going to be classified.

The polls suggest that the "mushy middle girls" are open to Sanders, they love her compared to Trump.
