Another tragedy brought about by yet ANOTHER "responsible" gun owner

What unfortunate truth would that be?

He was trying to play down DQ's comment regarding how deadly a .22 caliber bullet is, by claiming it might penetrate all the way to a bone MAYBE. Howey then pointed out that it penetrated deep enough to kill that little girl in Kentucky.

Ok, let me help you out a bit.

Is this what you were talking about when you referred to "the unfortunate truth about .22s"?

"a 22 is one of the most deadly firearms because it penetrates a body easily, but rather than exit the body, it ricochets around inside the body doing enormous damage."

This myth has been floating around for a long time. But just like the "The Great Wall Of China is the only manmade structure you can see from space" bit, it is a myth.

The .22 long rifle is one of the most common rounds in existance and has been for many decades. But it is not anywhere near the "most deadly". And the idea that it bounces around instead of going thru is simply impossible. When an object bounces in another direction, even just a slight change of tragectory, it loses energy. The .22 already doesn't have the energy to exit the body. If it hits bone it might shatter or deform (depending on the material used in the bullet). But it will not "bounce around inside the body". It lacks the energy necessary to do so.

Now, I'm sure there are places on the web that list killing by caliber. On there, without knowing anything else, a high number might make you think you know something. (I have not looked) But the thing to remember is that there are probably more firearms chambered in .22 out there than there are firearms chambered in all other calibers combined. Plus the ammo is cheap, the recoil is almost nonexistent, and the noise is far less than almost any centerfire cartridge.

No one, to my knowledge, has ever said a .22 was incapable of killing someone. What I believe the post was about was that DQ is repeating a common myth about .22s.

What he meant when he talked about hitting a bone was that it would be the only way a .22 would bounce around inside the body.

See my post above (I was typing it while you responded) for more info.

But let me clarify. No one is claiming a .22 will not kill. But the idea that it is the "deadliest caliber" is a myth.

Indeed it did. No one has said it did not. What he was talking about was the myth that the .22 "bounces around inside the body". I did not see any remark he made that stated a .22 could not kill someone.

Really?

You read his mind for that bit of info?

Because I don't see anywhere where Billy made such a distinction about what precisely he was talking about.

But if you do happen to share a psychic rapport with Billy and CAN read his mind...my apologies.

Oh come on...what a bullshit dodge!

Send a PROJECTILE downrange TO DO WHAT?

Strike and KILL it's target.
Yes and Zen Archery is all about practicing to kill. I find target shooting, especially at long range to be very meditative. Since I lefft the military I have yet to aim my weapon at another human being. I hunt deer and elk, but not with firearms, so I haven't aimed a firearm at a living creature since I left the military, yet I go to the range at least twice a month. I guess if you ever became good at something you understand the desire to do it

I followed the conversation. Perhaps I can help you understand.

First, Billy quoted DQ's remark about .22 being one of the most deadly firearms ect ect

Then he posted "Oh......please stop"

SF sarcastically posted "Definitely more deadly than a .45"

Which Billy quoted and replied with "I fucking hate people (almost always Fudds) who parrot that stupidity."

SF, with sarcasm once again, posted "but it ricochets..."

Billy then quoted SF's comment and replied with "If it penetrates deep enough to hit a bone, MAYBE."

So I am not reading anyone's mind. I am actually reading what they say and the quotes they refer to.

Make sense now?

You can apologize any time.

What else do you expect from another internet tough guy?

Too askeered to respond to the points I make...he runs and hides.

What points have you made??

That a New & Improved background check would have saved that little girl?
That Billy was saying the .22 wouldn't kill someone?
That the people in the OP bought that little gun to prove something?

Please tell us what points you have made?

Shooting at distance is very meditative.
