Much of it will be eaten up by inflation,
No shit SHERLOCK that's the fuckin' problem .....or do you relish the destruction of the dollar to achieve stupid ends ?
Inflation is necessary otherwise the dynamic between those with money and those without would take forever to change.
Let's say a person acquires a set amount of money and places it in the bank at a rate that covers inflation/rise in cost of living. That means they would forever have sufficient income by doing nothing. They would always be wealthier than the vast majority of those working for a living.
Once wealthy, the money would be passed from generation to generation and assuming the interest rate stayed ahead of inflation/cost of living that would result in certain families never working or contributing to society. At least now people have to invest to keep ahead meaning the money flows.
So, what is good about that, one may ask? The good is the younger generation get a chance to get ahead while contributing taxes to support the older generation.
Take housing, for example. Everyone wants their home to increase in value and go spastic if it declines. Homes increase 20% and the worker's paycheck increases 4%. How can they ever save enough money to buy a home?
They can't so the poor person remains a tenant all their life. They can never get ahead as the price of a home continues to increase quicker than their paycheck meaning the down payment required rises quicker than they can save and even if housing prices didn't increase faster how is one supposed to save thousands of dollars while paying rent especially if they have a family? The Reinvestment Act was designed to address that problem.
A good percentage of foreclosures involve people who purchased homes as an investment as opposed to a place to live. The idea people could buy a home for little money down with a low introductory interest rate should have been limited to first time home buyers.
Another thing that needs to be done is the implementation of universal medicare. How can one expect an elderly individual to financially help their children or grandchildren if they have to be prepared for an unexpected illness? That medical, rainy-day fund just sits there doing nothing when part of it could be used to help family members buy their first home or used to invest in an up and coming business but who can blame the elderly person for being cautious and this leads to your next comment in msg 26,
I'm tired of lefties intruding on my life.. how about you ?
The only intrusion "Lefties" are trying to make is to remove the mindset "If I don't have enough money I'll end up on the street." Unfortunately, that's just about the way things are now.
It's not "Lefties" who want to impose their dictatorial attitudes disguised as morals and values. It's not "Lefties" who want to impose rules to live by.
The gall of some Conservatives to talk about morals and values out of one side of their mouth while decrying helping those less fortunate is appalling. The excuse that people are lazy doesn't hold water. A healthy individual will want to improve their living conditions.
Those who appear lazy are more than likely suffering from some malady. From chronic illness to depression to something as simple as a poor diet resulting in a vitamin deficiency they deserve the right to see a doctor without money being an obstacle.
If that's interfering in someone's life then so be it.
One can't blame Conservatives for being so "money conscious" because that's the result of our society. They can, however, be blamed for not wanting to change it.
CHANGE. IT'S LONG OVERDUE!
