Another take on marking 9/11

Taichiliberal

Shaken, not stirred!
I don't do public or group mournings....to me personal grief is just that ....but I don't begrudge anyone who does the standard gigs like the upcoming 9/11 public memorial services tomorrow. To each their own, with my condoloences and sympathies, for what's that is worth.

What I do have a bone to pick on is that with all this media hype of interviews and reflections some major issues are STILL not being addressed....like the disgusting political and economic haggling and delays to get proper medical attention for all those who spent weeks digging out and saving lives at ground zero. Hell, NY Mayor Bloomberg DID NOT INVITE THE FAMILIES OF FIRST RESPONDERS OR VARIOUS RELIGIOUS LEADERS, STATING THERE WASN'T ENOUGH ROOM! What a POS....total politicizing the ceremony for showboat media! Also, this pitiful PR display of "security" measures everytime Home Land Security hears "chatter" or a "viable possibility of a threat". In the last ten years we've had 3 near misses....the shoe bomber, the underwear bomber and the Times Square car bomber. Homeland Security didn't stop these guys, malfunctions and their own incompetance did! So is it really necessary to have this billion dollar boondoggle of Homeland Security when some simple phone calls and weekly meetings by the various agencies did the same or a better job? Is it really necessary to have agencies tap our phones, read our e-mails and put "surveillance" on us without any justification or oversight by our elected government officials?

Some may say that this is not the time for such thoughts....but I say if we don't want this stuff to happen again, we damned well better start giving it the same attention as we do telling each other how we're dealing with the grief.

This I agree with 100%. Thank you.

Irony?

Still not getting you....what precisely are you referring to that you find "ironic" or "hypocritical"?
There's no need to get rid of the TSA just because you don't like them. Where exactly have they failed us? You don't go and throw the baby out with the bathwater, especially just to satisfy your political agenda.

As I pointed out, the last 3 failed terrorist attacks failed NOT because of Homeland Security, but because of the idiots who were trying. Last time I checked, the GAO rated HS as failing to achieve their goals DESPITE their budget (whatever the hell that is). Clinton achieved more with just weekly meetings among the various security and intelligence agencies. The bloated bureaucracy of HS is just that...bloated and unnecessary.

And as the chronology of the posts shows, you cannot show me where HS has failed in any capacity. You can parrot all the talking points you want, but until you have actual evidence of a HS failure, you're just pissing in the wind. You don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, especially when the bathwater is still good.

What's really sad is that you STILL cannot debate worth a damn, and despite your attempt at mockery and painfully obvious obtuse attitude and numerous screen alias....you're not stupid, you can read. The last 3 terrorist attacks failed NOT because of HS actions, but due to the ineptitude and/or mechanical failure. Could the same results have happened with simply weekly meetings and information exchange/strategies, or better? As it stands, an HS facility is being contructed nearly the size of the Pentagon. Why? They're not exactly doing a bang up job.....but don't take my word for it:

Despite its progress, Homeland Security remains on GAO risk list

Why don't you offer some proof to your claim? Oh, because you can't, and the chronology of the posts shows that clearly. Spout all the talking points and political agenda you want bunkie, evidence will still reign supreme.

AS you can see folks, this joker is obviously ignorant of the cases of the shoe bomber, the underwear bomber, and the car bomber in Times Square, NY attempts. Either that or he's just being a stubborn jackass who thinks garnering a response to his silliness is some sort of "victory". Whatever....my easily researched examples from recent news headlines plus the link to the GAO proves my point. I leave this dancing fool to repeat his silliness ad nauseum, as real debate is obviously not his goal.

Damn if I don't actually agree with the TCtheclown on this one.....TSA is one the biggest boondoggles ever created by government and the cost to the taxpayers is staggering and growing every day.........some of the idiots they hire are known to be former criminals, they disrespect, harass and bully airline passengers at will...
They've been caught stealing from luggage, allowing drugs carriers to pass security unhindered.... they humiliate women and children without cause....
These jokers will be a burden on the taxpayers with benefits, vacations, healthcare and retirement costs for years and years into the future.....

Security should be in the hands of the airlines and airport personal aided by local law enforcement and government intelligence, with very stiff penalties for any security failures ......
They need to be paid well, trained well, and held to high standards of personal responsibility....
