Another Obama Record!… The Average Age of US Car on the Road Is 10.8 Years

Then why do we have the EPA telling us older cars pollute the environment?? And why did Obama bail out GM? Think of the money it would have save if we did not bail them out.

General Motors make great cars! This one is still on the road. Well, in winter storage for now but driven until last Nov 15th. It gets 20 mpg. WROOM!

What morons. The average age of the US Fleet in 2008 was 8 years old. Thanks to the Bush recession people have been buying less new cars. Now if you were really paying attention maybe you would have noticed that the US auto makers sold, domestically, nearly 13 million units last year. Guess what? That's a pretty strong indicator that the economcy is recovering from the Bush recession. Hey, and guess which two companies sold the most cars in the US last year? GM and Ford. What morons.

There was this earthquake in Japan, and many of the parts used to make Toyota, et al, were not sent. Less built, less sold. It turned out good for the American car manufacturers, but really it isn't an indication of what you are saying, it is an indication that the tsunami effected Japan in ways that some people aren't looking for...

i don't get the point of this thread....

Apparently, the fact that people are buying less cars, and the US fleet is getting older therefore (even with the junkers program), is supposed to be something to celebrate.

Not to worry, Government Motors Chevy Volt is coming to save us all from carbon!

They put about 4500 on the road last year and only 4300 caught fire. Which means all those evil gas guzzlers will be off the road by 2532.

What a crock of shit.

Dude......for real? I mean that would explain why Honda dropped from the #4 to the #5 position in sales but Toyota stayed exactly where it's been for a long time, #3. You're also not thinking your argument through. If the Japanese earthquake impacted US Domestic autosales then had the earthquake not occurred then even more cars would have been sold then the 16.2 million units that were sold. It's very unlikely that Toyota would have bumped either GM or Ford in total sales nor does it bear any relation to the fact that 16.2 million vehicles of all makes were purchased in the US. So your argument doesn't hold water.

Just curious... does the 95mpg count just the gasoline used or does it somehow factor in the energy used to produce the electricity as well? Seriously curious, I don't know the answer.

Yet you thought you knew well enough to claim it uneconomical?

So the government doesn't subsidize oil? Your comment would have validity if oil were not subsidized.
Good point. The US Government also subsidized agriculture, the financial sector, Public Utilities (Gas & Electric), Telecomunications, aerospace and defense, pharmacueticals, transportation, chemicals, etc, etc, with oil, finance, utilities and telecommunications gettig over half the federal subsidies. By comparison Transportation gets a paltry 2.3% of Federal subsidies.

It's a cool technology no doubt, the only thing I'm disputing that you are saying is total cost equalling and practicality. You can't jump in a volt and go on vaction.

Uh, yes you can. It has a gas tank.

The Leaf can't be driven on a vacation.
