And lying to keep more of your money is moral?
Hmm... I'm curious about that one. I thought we were supposed to "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's"... is the money that I make the government's or mine? Is it moral for a Christian to avoid taxes?

I don't believe that the money I make belongs to the gov't. But I believe lying to keep more of it is immoral.

Taxes are like dues. When paying dues the "club" has a right to that money if one wishes to be a member. As a member of society or a country one must pay their dues.

Out of curiosity, what is the lying that you've been referring to?

SM argued that it is our duty to lie to the IRS about what money we make. He claims he does so every year, and has no qualms about signing his tax forms.

I guess you could argue that lying itself is immoral, but dodging taxes is a longstanding American tradition.

YouTube- You can't take it with.....and neither should the government.

Oh I agree that we should try and keep all the money we can. That is not a problem for me.

However, I have an issue with lying (from a moral standpoint) to do so. Either you behave in a moral manner or you don't. Whether its in your relationship with your spouse or dealing with the IRS.

Of course, times have changed since Henry David Thoreau spent the night in jail for not paying taxes that would go to a government which waged war against Mexico and allowed slavery to exist. Just ask Al Capone.

There is a point also, if someone is going to try and shape society by proclaiming biblical morality as the basis for all good morals, then that person should do all they can to live a moral life.

I have been arguing against and fight against our current tax system for decades. But I think the hypocrisy of ranting against immoral behavior on one topic, and then supporting immoral behavior on another is worth being slapped for.
