Ok, but there would be a severe hit to the current quality of life we all enjoy now. How many people are going to be happy downgrading their lifestyle? I know it's easy to say too bad tough it out but in reality I don't think most would just sit back and take it.

We overcame and became greater, at the start of WW II, when others didn't think we would be able to do it and I think we could do it again.

Of course parts of the bill need to be adjusted. It was a start.

Now the parameters have been set. Health care is no longer an option. Whether future talks are about budgets or deficits or how to implement things like electronic records or changes to insurance company policies.....all the discussions and proposals will be within the parameters of everyone having health care.

That was the important step and that's basically what Obama was referring to when he said he wasn't going to entertain old, worn out arguments. Everyone is entitled to medical care. That argument has been settled. Now comes the fine tuning.

I hear what you are saying but let me play devils advocate. Our economy runs on oil. Yeah, yeah I know all this green stuff but the reality for today and for at least the near term future we need oil. If we pulled all our troops from across the globe and middle eastern countries start attacking each other and ultimately either stop or severely restrict our access to oil what will that do to our economy?

force the idiots in DC to realize that we MUST reduce our dependency on foreign energy sources?

We get the bulk of our foreign oil from Canada, Mexico and Nigeria. Other South American sources provide a good chunk as well... though I would rather us not continue needing Venezuela.

We can tap our own resources and reduce that dependency. We can invest heavily in alt energy resources and tech. We can convert what electricity we develop from coal to nat gas plants. We can build more nuclear plants.

There is a lot we can do. We simply need a catalyst to convince the idiots on the left that drilling our own oil and nat gas is better for the environment and for national security. We also need to convince the idiots on the right of the need to put more into alt and clean(er) energy sources.
