Americans reject Obama European style socialism

If Obama thought he could sell European style socialism to Americans, a February 21, 2010 Rasmussen Report should be a wake up call for him and the Democrats. Only 22% of the nation's voters strongly approve of how he is performing his role as President.

According to Rasmussen, the low approval rating comes as Obama is focusing on health care legislation. The President just doesn't seem to get it, even though only 39% of voters nation wide favor it.

He's a hardcore ideologue who needs to keep his base loyal. This makes him, thankfully, a one termer.

It's so interesting to hear this, and then hear from people on the left who can't stand him, say he's a moderate and claim that he's just like Bush.

MOST Americans supported universal healthcare before the TEA folks propogandized it as the 2nd coming of Mao....

People still support reform, they just don't support back-door deals and closeted meetings (like the current one) making deals like the NE deal to pay for votes, and about a myriad other problems.

The particular law that they are attempting to make America choke on isn't the only possible way to "reform" health care and most believe is a malformation rather than a reformation.

Seriously, it really is only the partisan-blind that cannot see that there are myriad other options than this one, and that people disliking this particular craptacular bill are not against reforming health care. It takes the particularly kool-aid filled partisan to pretend that disliking this bill means you want "nothing done".

Being partisan is good, it's what drives us forward. Being partisan-blind is just plain blindness wrapped up in an agreement bow. Usually these people hang out with each other and lead each other to the agreement feast.

I reject that the final proposal was "European-style socialism." It included many elements that he ran on, which polled favorably at the time, and was watered down enough that many on the left hated it, and thought Obama was capitulating way too much.

I saw an interesting poll the other day - I think it was WSJ - where they polled the favorability of Obama's plan, and it was down in the low 40's. But when they asked about the main elements of the plan separately, without mentioning that they were part of the plan, they polled near 50.

Even near 50 ain't "most". Americans don't want this shit, never have and never will.

Exactly!!

The entire bill is practically just one Republican idea after the other. The only thing left-wing in it is the public option, which was stripped out in the senate version. Even some of the more moderate ideas - like Lieberman's medicare buy in - were amazingly rejected by the same people who had proposed it. It's pretty clear that this opposition is mainly coming from an obstruct-everything-Obama-proposes attitude rather than any attempt to propose alternative "reform". If Obama proposes Republican ideas and the Republicans vote against their own proposals, what else is to be said?

I can't recall a time in history when most Americans supported European or Canadian style socialized medicine.
You don't know what you're talking about. Only the UK has a state funded Medical system like Canada. The rest of Europe does not. Why do you guys believe this propaganda? Is it that difficult to do a little research and find out how other nations manage their health care systems?

Fine then, you tell us, how should health care be reformed? How would you reform it so that all are covered and that no one ever goes bankrupt because they got sick or injured and so that we only spend 6 to 8% of GDP on health care? How would you do this?

He may be a one termer, but only an idiot would offer a certian prediction at this point!

You failed to comprehend my simple sentence. That's why I said that Americans don't want either European or Canadian style socialized medicine. :palm:

Why? Obama's just as bad as Carter was, and Carter got his ass kicked royally. History is bound to repeat itself.

It's just hackery & wishful thinking to compare him to Carter at this point. Carter started with an economy that wasn't all that bad & made it a heck of a lot worse. Obama started with one of the worst economies in history, and is making it better.

Maybe in 2-3 years, you'll have a point if things are stagnant or worse, but I doubt it.

Point!

It doesn't matter how many times you say exactly this, they are going to turn it into this brain-dead rant that conservatives want to dismiss the entire thing out of hand.

I haven't read much of this thread, but I am sure the next rant on this topic will be Rasmussen leans right and therefore the poll is moot.

How ironic, your use of the word "hackery". Bush's policies of spending and debt have been doubled down by The One, and you expect the economy to improve? :)
