America, you are getting screwed by your own people. EVEN St. William of Gates.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, founded in 1994, exerts a
major influence on global agricultural policy. It manages total
grants of US$24 billion, which finance the Foundation’s
projects.133 The Gates Foundation claims to promote “new
techniques to help farmers in developing countries grow more
food and earn more money” whilst openly supporting genetic
engineering projects in Africa and other developing countries.134
Nearly 80% of Gates Foundation funding in Kenya involves
biotechnology and there have been over $100 million in grants
to organisations connected to Monsanto.135

Monsanto is destroying traditional, sustainable farming across Africa and are producing MORE pesticides, such as 'Roundup' than ever before! Yet they say they are REDUCING the need for pesticides.

They are reducing the use of pesticides not made by THEM. That's certain.
Your own government - yes, the present one! - actively promotes GM foods into third world countries on the pretext that they are giving food aid. Food aid??? The US produces 64% of the worlds GM seeds. Good business Mr. Obama! Who gives a shit about Guatamala:

This would also put local varieties at risk due to the potential transfer of genes from GM plants

Who gives a shit about:

One interviewee, Viviana Peralta from Santa Fe, Argentina, had to rush her new-born baby daughter, Ailen, to hospital after she turned blue when Roundup and other agrochemicals were sprayed on GM soy near their home. Peralta and other residents then filed and won a lawsuit against the soy producers, banning the spraying of Roundup and other agrochemicals near houses in Santa Fe.

yeah thats it....bill gates foundation is EVIL!!!!!

good lord....the foundation donates more money a year that 99% of us make in a lifetime to 10th power

he could horde all his money and you would still bitch...damned if you do, damned if you don't. i'm glad gates doesn't care about what lowiq or others like him think.

Isn't that more to do with corrupt governments, over there and over here?

The American government promotes GM foods as what it misguidedly believes is good business.

Most people have been misinformed.

My gripe, actually, is not GM food per se, but the potential for corporate control over what we plant, reap and eat.

That is dangerous.

It MUST be stopped if people are really concerned about the starving millions (so glib?).

It doesn't surprise me that vast numbers of fairly intelligent people prefer to turn their bury their heads. It is much easier that way.

Welcome to the Ostrich School of Management.

The Pros and Cons of Genetically Modified Seeds

Earlier this month, Monsanto, the world's largest seed company, admitted that its genetically engineered "Bt" (bacillus thuringiensis) cotton seed wasn't all that farmers in India had hoped. Reports coming in from four districts of India's Gujarat state indicated that the company's seeds had not been able to prevent a pest called the pink bollworm from attacking cotton crops. Activists hoping to protect the country's biodiversity and its farmers from excessive dependence on multinational seed companies hailed the news as a victory in the latest round of an increasingly shrill public debate on the role of GM crops. About 90% of India's cotton is based on Bt cotton seed; Monsanto and its licensees are the dominant suppliers of those seeds.

The anti-GM camp had reason to cheer a few weeks earlier as well, when Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh abruptly put a moratorium on an insect-resistant variety of aubergine seed, known as Bt brinjal, on the eve of its much-hyped launch. But the battle is far from over. Shortly after the moratorium was declared, the government also made overtures to GM advocates by insisting that it did not want to shut the doors on the industry. Noting biotechnology's importance for "higher agricultural productivity and ensuring food security," Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called for additional studies on the environmental and health effects of GM crops and promised to set up a national biotechnology authority to stimulate investment in seed development.

Farmers use as much pesticide with GM crops, US study finds

By Steve Connor, Science Editor

One of the major arguments in favour of growing GM crops has been undermined by a study showing that the benefits are short-lived because farmers quickly resort to spraying their fields with harmful pesticides.

Supporters of genetically modified crops claim the technique saves money and provides environmental benefits because farmers need to spray their fields fewer times with chemicals.

However, a detailed survey of 481 cotton growers in China found that, although they did use fewer pesticides in the first few years of adopting GM plants, after seven years they had to use just as much pesticide as they did with conventional crops.

Genetic use restriction technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Question_book-new.svg" class="image"><img alt="Question book-new.svg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/99/Question_book-new.svg/50px-Question_book-new.svg.png"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/9/99/Question_book-new.svg/50px-Question_book-new.svg.png

Genetic use restriction technology (GURT), colloquially known as terminator technology, is the name given to proposed methods for restricting the use of genetically modified plants by causing second generation seeds to be sterile. The technology was developed under a cooperative research and development agreement between the Agricultural Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture and Delta and Pine Land company in the 1990s, but it is not yet commercially available.[1] Because some stakeholders expressed concerns that this technology might lead to dependence for poor smallholder farmers, Monsanto Company, an agricultural products company and the world's biggest seed supplier, pledged not to commercialize the technology in 1999.[2] However, customers who buy seeds from Monsanto Company must sign a Monsanto Technology/Stewardship Agreement. "The agreement specifically states that the grower will not save or sell the seeds from their harvest for further planting, breeding or cultivation".[3] This legal agreement preempts the need for a "terminator gene". Late in 2006, Monsanto acquired Delta and Pine Land company.

monsanto is dog shit, there is a very damning documentary on them but I forget the name. Gates likely didn't vet monsanto enough, they suck balls worse than our GED triumveret - Bravo, usfreedom, SouthernBackwhiskerburns!!!
