New surveys show Americans' membership in communities of worship has declined sharply in recent years, with less than 50% of the country belonging to a church, synagogue or mosque.

Why it matters: The accelerating trend towards a more secular America represents a fundamental change in the national character, one that will have major ramifications for politics and even social cohesion.

By the numbers: A Gallup poll released last week found just 47% of Americans reported belonging to a house of worship, down from 50% in 2018 and 70% as recently as 1999.

This will make the extremist religious Reichwingers became even more energized to install their beliefs into our government.

But in the end, secularism will triumph and the world will be better for it.
 
I have been saying for two decades that America is becoming a Post Christian nation...other folks are beginning to figure this out.
 
There are perfectly logical and even self interest reason to be good to others


We need to teach all humans those reasons

Meh, it’s more of a pendulum that goes back and forth.

They’ve been predicting the death of Christianity about as long as there’s been Christianity. Typically, Christianity rebounds either with a revival that sweeps the nation; or during times of persecution.

It’s quite conceivable the latter is not too far off.

And as I said yesterday I am coming around to thinking that this is so. As Jordan Peterson said the West has lost our ability to regenerate, he does not know why but once that goes the civilization dies if it cant get it restarted in time.

The West is Toast....it is already too late for us....our goose is cooked.

The West and America were something once.

Look at post-Christian Europe with their 0.8 reproduction rate. The secularists WANT those kind of statistics even though it spells demographic suicide. Centuries after Charles Martel held off the Muslim hordes Europe is on track to be a Muslim majority.

That’s another thing the progressives want: they want demographic change. They want white people *especially* white Christians to die off and be replaced with people ‘of color’. I’m not exactly sure they expect will happen after that and I’m confident they don’t think that far ahead.

Maybe one of them can explain the End Game because I can’t.

Where did you get your 0.08% figure for birth rate from? This source almost doubles that number. BTW, Japan's birth rate is roughly the same as Europe's, at 1.42%. They are not Christian or post-Christian.

I grabbed it out of the air because I knew Europe wasn’t replacing their population with Europeans. It’s needs to be 2.Something or it’s a downhill slide.

Instead of just making more babies they import/allow immigrants to come in. It’s demographic suicide. That’s cool if you think there are too many Europeans already.

Like or not, it’s part of the West’s historical identity.

It was called Christendom for a reason. We have a generation or two already that don’t know the OT from the NT. Though they might be introduced to the Inquisition at the university. The only word for it is cultural ignorance. Even thinkers like Marx was at least familiar with the Torah even if he rejected it.

We’re losing the link to our cultural history and it’s starting to show itself.
