America is becoming more liberal

America is becoming more liberal-progressive because the younger generations are employing more common sense.

-Less religion in public institutions (as the founders originally had it!)
-The minority (don't just think black people) has a voice and we are not focused on the majorities opinion.
-Less government intrusion and more about the people's voices.
-Women having a choice in their own bodies.

The biggest issue I have with conservatism is that they want more religion to be pervasive in society. The conservatives forget that although those that sailed here were Christians this does not make this a Christian country simply because the majority of the people's faith is Christianity. We tend to popularize non-Christian traditions like Christmas simply as a way to unify all of the country but simply saying that we need God in schools or that we need to be more Christian grounded is ridiculous. The founders were getting away from an overtly Christian society so why would they come here to make this the same kind of country they ran away from?

Meh....I saw the pendulum swing pretty radically a couple of times in my life.

As I said... Either defeat liberalism by selling a better set of beliefs in the marketplace of ideas, or sit down and shut the fuck up and live with it, or leave. Do you see any other rational choices?
Oh no, you can't sell a liberal anything. You have to let them have everything they want and then let them live under the very same system that they create. That system will eventually collapse, and the cycle will start again. You just sit down there in Mexico, lording over the hacienda, and watch it happen.

if the majority of Americans do not agree with your ideology, what makes you think you have a right to cram it down their throats? Get the votes... THEN you can have things your way. Until then, sit on the back bench and try not to bother the adults.

True, but we are not going to swing back towards the religious end of the spectrom
Why not? We did in 2001! Think that can't happen again?

When I was born The US was only 15 years away from the Great Depression and WWII. That was in the earl sixties. By the mid to late sixties the politics has swung to the far left to expand the social welfare state, which they did. They also brought more people out of poverty in the US than at any time in our history. By the time the 70's were almost over the US took a major step to the right of the political spectrum that put most on the nation at the center right politically. As the 80's drifted by the Republican party drifted farther and farther to the right into the 90's where they were co-opted by Clinton who took a center right position. The party continued to drift rightward through the 90's with the advent of right wing talk radio programs and a right wing cable news network (Fox). Then the 911 catastrophe occurred and the pendulum took a significant leap to the right. Since about 2006 or 2007 the pendulum has started swinging back towards the center.

A boatload fewer young Americans are religious. Being overly religious will be toxic at the polls.

To me the real question is how both parties will handle younger voters. Most of the people in my children's group of friends is socially liberal and fiscally more conservative. They do not feel at home in either party.

I am not saying that things won't swing back republican. I am saying if anything 2001was a dying gasp of the religious right, and that people with more than a few brain cells were turned off by Bush and companies band of religion.

Nobody is cramming anything down your throats. That would be a form of education and you hardcore "liberals" are beyond teaching. Like I said, you have to experience the shit storm you create. And if you think the adults are in charge in D.C. right now, well, I'm thinking my entropy theory is farther along than I originally thought and we're all screwed anyway.

then, by all means, sit back and enjoy the ride.

Right now maybe but that can change given time. The problem with the youth vote is that it's a long term investment as most young people don't vote. The party that can win the hearts and minds of todays youths can assure a lot of sucess for their party in the future. That doesn't help them today.

As for 2001 being a dying gasp of the religious right...I hardly think so. They have been a part of the American body politic since the beginning. I don't see that changing. What is changing right now is the degree of influence that they have.

I agree that data indicates that the US is becoming less religious and more secular but that doesn't change the fact that religion is still hugely popular in the US.

it's amazing how morons like Nova deliberately confuse "democrat" with "liberal".

boooooooooring.

::yawn::

I'm amused you think they aren't connected. Do share with us what the HUGE difference would be; it is at least good for comedic relief.

I bet you think you are a Liberal too. LMAO
