Agreed on loss of respect. I was a staunch Republican for 38 years but Romney was my last Republican vote*.
After the loss of the 2012 election, the GOP commissioned the "Growth & Opportunity Project" to analyze and assess how to grow the party. Mainly, embrace Hispanics. The White Supremacist element roundly rejected those recommendations and only because bigger bigots. That was it for me. Although the problem was apparent after Obama's election in 2008, I could no longer hold my nose, much less turn a blind eye, to the racial and sexual bigotry running rampant through the Republican Party. I couldn't bring myself to vote Democrat, mainly over guns, and became a Libertarian voter. Mainly as a protest/spoiler vote.
