All conspiracy theories are nutz

A conspiracy theory is an explanation of an event or situation that invokes a conspiracy—generally one involving an illegal or harmful act supposedly carried out by government or other powerful actors—without credible evidence. Conspiracy theories often produce hypotheses that contradict the prevailing understanding of history or simple facts. The term tends to be a derogatory one.

According to the political scientist Michael Barkun, conspiracy theories rely on the view that the universe is governed by design, and embody three principles: nothing happens by accident, nothing is as it seems, and everything is connected. Another common feature is that conspiracy theories evolve to incorporate whatever evidence exists against them, so that they become, as Barkun writes, a closed system that is unfalsifiable, and therefore "a matter of faith rather than proof".

What the hell are you talking about...and why are you not actually saying whatever you mean to say?

Conspiracy theories are like scientific ones, unproven until they are. Guys like my brother in law don't bother to look for proof when they believe what they want, he still thinks the moon landing didn't happen. Sciece people keep looking for proof.

Conspiracy theories are simply the result of one's psychological need to have an explanation for events and phenomena. Especially when the truth provides a disappointing explanation or outcome.

About as descriptive and brief as you can get, hit it right on the head, and explains why the right is full of demogogues making millions perpetuating conspiracies and innuendos conservatives want to hear

People still want to believe that the bootlegger's son wasn't shot by Oswald.

Review who coined the term.

And yet, sometimes, conspiracy theories get it right.

The ones that tell you what you want to hear?

Whether they get some things right or not (mostly not) is purely a matter of chance. The methodology of conspiracy "theorists" is spurious.

OK. Check this out. Fact or conspiracy theory. The Joint Chiefs of Staff recommended that US armed forces disguise themselves as Mexican illegal immigrants and conduct domestic acts of terrorism on US citizens in order to gain support for building the wall.

But scientism is a religion as flawed as all the others.

The crucial difference is that scientific theories are open to DISPROOF. The more open to disproof they are, the better they are, provided they survive the test.

Conspiracy theories, otoh, typically are closed systems incapable of being disproved to the satisfaction of believers. If evidence is found contradicting the theory, well, it must have been planted by "them" - the conspirators - to mislead the sheeple. But true believers aren't fooled by that, lol.

That's how it works.

I'm sorry fine sirs, but conspiracies of powerful people controlling the world are factual.

Central banks create money out of thin air, and enslave the entire world population as collateral. Fact.

Not sure what in hell "scientism" is, but if it is "science"...then my response to this is:

All religions may be flawed...

...but science...is not a religion.

If "scientism" is a name given to some fringe religion...then: Who cares?

It's an appeal to authority based on a person being designated as a scientist. Scientists can also be corrupted to lie, just like any other person, and they have been.
