Alabama

Why do you have such a beef about that? No one alive during the Civil War is alive today. Get over it.

Besides, the Union sucks anyway. And while slavery was a stupid reason to do it secession is not intrinsically evil or wrong.

Its highly patriotic, though. And people are alive today who supported segregation, and many fly the Southern Swastika on their bumpers.

epic you have elite northern blood. You are basically a northerner so I'm going to claim you as one of us.

LOL. My dad's side of the family were impoverished Yankees. My dad basically raised them up from lower to middle class.

My mom's side of the family is the polar opposite. She is from Old South money and her whole side of the family is that kind of refined Southern aristocrat thing. They were in the gossip columns a lot and my grandfather was a leader in the movement that ultimately made the Republican party viable again in Alabama.

I take a lot of pride in that heritage, but I also respect what my dad did to raise his own family out of poverty.

Ummm... the ;) indicates I was giving you shit. Though I am sure you were aware of that and simply wanted to take advantage of another opportunity to rip on Bama and Mississippi

My brother .. I'm black .. are you the least bit surprised that I would take any and every opportunity to rip on Alabama and Mississippi?

Let me state unequivically that I'm guilty.

It's highly patriotic? What is? Secession?

Well duh there were people who supported segregation in the North too and you're not whining about them. People are proud of their heritage for a variety of reasons, though some are undoubtedly racist and bigoted.

Yeah, secession is highly patriotic. Makes a good US American out of us all...

Lots of athletes come from the south so I doubt they'd have a problem living there. There aren't sports teams in those 2 because the market is too small.

Liberal Hartford lost the Whalers, Liberal Seattle lost the Sonics while Oklahoma now has the Thunder.
Conservative areas attract business of all kinds.

I don't disagree that many athletes come from the south .. but Alabama and Mississippi hold a special unpleasant designation for many who do not .. especially Mississippi.

Not only are the markets small, but there ain't much money there either.

Liberal Massachusetts not only has thriving pro sports teams, they are some of the best in the country .. lots of champions.

The same can be said of liberal New York and California as well. Being conservative has nothing to do with it.

Seattle lost the Sonics but still have pro sports teams that aren't going anywhere.

given all that information, lets look at the real reason those sports teams are there....

liberal cities take massive amounts of money from it's people and give it to team owners to build outlandish stadiums that they MIGHT get a tax revenue from.

real frickin smart there.

I know of no one who supported segregation. And segregation is a far fucking cry from secession, which is what you pointed out in your post. Since you are so into history, perhaps you would be interested in educating yourself a little...

New York
In the period of national crisis immediately preceding the American Civil War, Democratic Mayor Fernando Wood, widely considered the most corrupt in the city's history, proposed the secession of the city as a sovereign city-state to be called the Free City of Tri-Insula (Tri-Insula meaning "three islands" in Latin), and incorporating Manhattan, Long Island and Staten Island. In an address to the city's Common Council on January 6, 1861, Mayor Wood expressed a Copperhead sympathy with the threatened seceding states and a desire to maintain profitable cotton shipping, confidence that the city-state would prosper on the import tariffs that then supplied 2/3 of the Federal revenues, and especially dissatisafaction with the state government at Albany. But the idea of leaving the United States proved too radical even in the turmoil of 1861 and was poorly received, especially after the Southern bombardment of Fort Sumter starting on April 12. The war, and especially conscription, was nevertheless often unpopular in the city, sparking the deadly New York Draft Riots.

So we see, your very own beloved Northerners were considering secession from the Union.

I seriously doubt GA is any better. Atl is truely a shitty place to visit.

You are certainly free to believe that and I'm not in love with Georgia .. but it ain't Alabama and it ain't Mississippi .. and uhh .. it ain't Louisiana either.

There is a reason why the Atlanta area is such a magnet for African-Americans .. even for some like me who don't really care for the south.

By the way, during Katrina I was heavily involved in helping to relocate many from La. who moved here and never went back.

Take note: Secession didn't occur, and the mayor was a Copperhead Dem. And Lincoln was relatively unpopular in the states he presided over until his assassination.

That's funny considering that 3 of the 4 NFL teams that made it to the end of the playoffs, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia all were subsidized in building the stadiums and community anchors and all benefitted from doing so.

That's also funny because nearly half the pro sports teams are subsidized by the cities and communities they exist in .. including such hot beds of liberalism like Texas, Georgia, and Utah.

Gwinnett stadium backers follow Texas’ lead

The folks in Frisco, Texas, have been awfully busy the past few years.

After hearing a new mall that transformed the community into a commercial powerhouse might not survive without more shoppers, city leaders set out on a plan to transform the city into a center of sports tourism.

They built a bicycle racing venue. Then a baseball stadium. A hockey arena. A convention center. A soccer stadium. Hotel occupancy has exploded, along with taxes on room rentals, said James Gandy, president of the Frisco Economic Development Corp. Sales tax collections also have increased.

It’s a model Gwinnett County (Georgia) leaders frequently point to when they argue their new 10,000-seat baseball stadium will catalyze development around the Buford Drive site near Lawrencville, more than making up for the $64 million cost, including the cost of the land. The county is covering $31 million of the cost in cash.

The best thing about Alabama is that I don't live there. Other than that, can't think of a single reason to ever go there.

I'm sure Alabama is fine .. if you like that sort of thing.

BAC, I would love to take you to some places in Alabama. I think you would enjoy yourself.

Bellingrath Gardens is an amazing place if flora is appealing to you.

The history in Mobile is amazing.

Some blues music venues in Birmingham are pretty good.

You just need a good host/tour guide, BAC.
