Because I think this is a waste of time and effort. Discrimination has been removed. The Alabama State Constitution needs to be completely rewritten, not amended and reamended. The removal of segregation from the state constitution would accomplish nothing real.

There is discrimination, but I don't know of any segregation.

I have never heard of a "seg school". When I google it I find references to hotel schools.

The link you posted earlier, has a link to the site of the main opposition to the bill. They are the Secular Coalition for Alabama, a group of Atheists, Agnostics, and Humanists. (LIKE YOU, STRINGY!) They say explicitly, they opposed the amendment because it wouldn't give children the constitutional right to an education. In 2004, other people opposed the same basic Amendment because it DID give children the constitutional right to an education. The establishment of constitutionality is vitally important because this is what gives the state legislature the constitutional authority to levy a school tax. I don't care how much you want to stomp your feet and insist this isn't the case, Stringy. This is how governments work, this is what constitutions are for. Even your very own link supports what I have said.

I have no reason to lie, I have no dog in the hunt here. I voted against the amendment in 2004 and 2012, as I vote against ALL amendments to the Alabama state constitution. I want Alabama to hold a constitutional convention and rewrite the whole thing, at which time, I will oppose any segregationist language and will not ratify a new constitution that contains it. I'm not real worried that will be a problem. In summary, we have the stated opposition of the Alabama secularists, atheists, agnostics and humanists, in the link you provided, directly contradicting your argument, we have my enlightening history behind this amendment, and the story behind the story, and we have you and your bigoted opinion which you simply can't support. Out of all other options, your only course of action now, is to throw out insults and hate-filled rants about me personally, and the people of Alabama who you are obviously prejudiced against because of geographic location. You are full of shit. You dont even live in Alabama. I doubt they say anything like that and more likely you are twisting there words as you always do.

There was no guarantee of a right to an education in the 2004 amendment. The opposition of some is due to a desire to remove all of the language that was added to thwart desegregation and the 2012 amendment left some of it in place.

But yet your state passed every other amendment. That excuse holds no water. This one would only remove text.

It does accomplish something real if people like ditzy get there way and overturn desegregation rulings. Its not very likely but i would not put much past scum like Scalia and the sort of judges people like ditzy demand.

It also is a symbolic act, but apparently the flag and the symbolism of leaving it in is more valuable to the people of Alabama.

Caught in another lie... Last week you were arguing with bravo that Romney was going to win. But bravo has more integrity and had to acknowledge what was plain to see.

What flag? Are you mistaking AL with GA? The Alabama flad is not a confederate flag.

As for why people rejected that amendment and accepted the others, you will have to ask them. Unless there is something positive to be gained, I dislike any additions or subtractions to a document that should be totally rewritten.

Symbolic acts are simple nonsense. Why waste the time and money on something that actually does nothing?

Private schools are not obligated to accept anyone they don't want to. And there are lily-white private schools all over the country.

That is not state segregation. And removing the language from the state constitution would not have any effect on those private schools.

Again, the leading opposition to the amendment in question, was the Secular Coalition of Alabama, Atheists, Agnostics, and Humanists... like STRINGY! They stated, in the link posted by STRINGY, their reason for opposition was a failure to recognize education as a constitutional right. Stringy continues to insist that his own linked source is lying and the real reason for opposition is because Alabama racists want to keep racial segregation in schools. Now, I don't give a shit if you're left, right or center... you decide! Who is correct here? Is this about constitutionality of education, or is it about wanting to keep schools segregated in Alabama?

Stringy certainly doesn't need to be calling anyone "ditzy!"

A quick google search shows that they use federal funding for private schools in Tucson.

And it is happening in Colorado too? Oh my!



I have traveled extensively and have lived in numerous places. I might live in another state, but if I have my way I will always live in the south.

Actually, there are probably bigots everywhere.

The main point is just that. And private schools can select whomever they want in their school. So claiming that is segregation is nonsense. And claiming it has anything to do with the OP is even more so.
