I can help you with where to start; start with liberals in the mid 20th century that were enthralled with the Soviet Union and European style economies who lost to conservative and more free market ideals. Had we gone the liberal route we would not be the country we are today.

You are confusing the classical definition of the two terms with the current political meanings. That's actually the most common ploy of contemporary liberals to justify their nonsensical political views.
