Afghan troop surge to include thousands of paratroopers, Marines and heavy bombers

It went nowhere because the USA was unwilling to cede...

That is what will change...

You have had way to many years of that "Already"...

How many more do you think it will be before you "drive" them to the table??

You know why they are called the graveyard of empires..
I don't think we're gonna cede the idea the Taliban is the official Afghani government like they purported to be @ Qatar..
I don't even think we can get a negotiated political settlement -although we might get a stalemate on the war itself, much like we did with North Korea

As I said, simply calling them something else is what they will do.....

IMHO there will be no stalemate, that is wishful thinking on the US part......

In the end we will leave & they will have their country back.....

a whole bunch of ISIS are leaving the ME for Afghanistan..
staying there as long as we like to kill terrorists is good enough for me

The taliband will kill them just as they have the Mongols, the Persians, Brits, Russians etc etc etc...

AQ Core (Zawahiri at least) is supposedly in Karachi -sheltered by the ISI.

It's a mess - i wonder if Iranian AQ are there too? Whack a Mole time

^ "Syrian / middle east AQ" i should have obviously written- not "Iranian AQ"

Although Iran has been known to give sanctuary for high value AQ

Noise: "Afghan troop surge to include thousands of paratroopers, Marines and heavy bombers"

That's odd. Previously, you posted criticism of Hillary Clinton advocating for a counter insurgency surge in Afghanistan. Undoubtedly as part of your scheme to portray Clinton as a warmongering NeoCon.

Why the "sudden" flip flop?? Why the "sudden" change of heart and why did you become the board's biggest NeoCon war monger?

Annatta previously:

Barack Obama and Bernie Sanders, on the other hand, share a perspective of “skeptical restraint.” They worry about the unintended consequences of regime change. They are more aware of the limits and costs of military force. They don’t believe the United States can or should police the world. They understand that without restraint abroad, we will never be able to focus on rebuilding our country at home.

This difference was reflected throughout the Obama years. Secretary of State Clinton lobbied hard with the generals for a counterinsurgency “surge” in Afghanistan, over the opposition of Biden and her own aide Richard Holbrooke. The president was skeptical but finally signed on. The counterinsurgency was a failure, and the United States remains mired in Afghanistan to this day.

I mean, you can try to word smith it all you want. But the bottom line is if Hillary had been elected and did what Trump is doing, you would have been the first one here hollering that she is a warmonger.

great question.much better then your usual self serving claptrap.

There are 2 types of armed intervention -though they are just known as interventionism.

1. Counterinsurgency
it's shorthand for nation building.
"Hearts and minds", building schools, establishing western standards is all long term institutional/insurgency conflict.

2.Counter terrorism
shorthand: anything from Whack A Mole air/artillery to manned missions to go kill the terrorist.

3. we are moving almost all the away from counterinsurgency to a war fitting for counter-terrorism

I have no doubt we would have been tangled up in some fashion in Syria by her by now.

It's gonna be one of those "interesting times" to see how middle east ISIS can get along with AQ in Afghan.
Hopefully not all that well
