"New England" is a broad term...What states in particular are you speaking of and we can look at them.

No, it is a specific term, idiot. The six New England states are Rhode Island, Conn, Mass, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine.

Town meeting is a form of local government practiced in the U.S. region of New England since colonial times, and in some western states since at least the late 19th century.[SUP][1][/SUP] Typically conducted by New England towns, town meeting can also refer to meetings of other governmental bodies, such as school districts or water districts. While the uses and laws vary from state to state, the general form is for residents of the town or school district to gather once a year and act as a legislative body, voting on operating budgets, laws and other matters for the community's operation over the following 12 months.

When, in some obscure country town, the farmers come together to a special town-meeting, to express their opinion on some subject which is vexing the land, that, I think, is the true Congress, and the most respectable one that is ever assembled in the United States.[SUP][2][/SUP] Henry David Thoreau

The classic case of projection. You, voting for people who would just as soon connive and cheat and swindle you out of your money.

Now you are too profoundly stupid to ever be a socialist, but the socialists realize they need people like you to promote their propaganda. All this stuff you are yammering about, is designed to hamper or destroy capitalism. Once that happens, the socialists can implement their socialist system, and then there will be no use for you. While people like you ultimately end up at the bottom of a mass grave, you are a very vital and important part of the process. You are too ignorant of illiterate of history to realize, this has been done before, numerous times, and with great success. Russia, Italy, Germany, and China, all used this method to introduce socialism to the people. The end is always the same as well, those who were the biggest cheerleaders for socialism, have a spot reserved at the bottom of a mass grave. The story doesn't end as you think it will, because the fairy tale becomes a living nightmare. Once capitalism is dead, and the state has confiscated the wealth of those who know how to make capitalist systems work, the economic conditions begin to falter. The state, unequipped to deal with the massive problem of too many people with no jobs or hope, and unable to adequately provide for them, turns to genocide as a solution. Again, this is not fear-mongering, it is a matter of documented historical record. This has all been done before, and it never has worked out as the 'useful idiots' envisioned.

Our system already deals with consumer fraud, theft, dishonest business practices, and things of this nature. Every year, white collar criminals are sent off to prison in shackles, for screwing people over. State control will not mean you won't be screwed, it simply changes who gets to do the screwing. With a free market capitalist system, you have recourse, someone you can go after and take before a court, and ultimately win judgement against. When this system is controlled by the state, your "recourse" becomes occupying your reserved space at the bottom of a mass grave, with a bullet in your head. You don't see this now, you are still enamored with a fairy tale. You still believe there is some mystical way for people to not really have to work, but still be provided for and cared for, by a central government. However, governments don't generate profits, they don't produce and sell a product to consumers, or provide services for remuneration. They simply cost money, and with no capitalists to generate tax bases or workers to pay taxes, there is no source of revenue and the entire economic system collapses. In the past, such systems have never been sustained more than a few decades.

But the real problem is not just that the model doesn't work, it's what you must do in order to implement the model in the first place. It's equivalent to Micheal Phelps having his arms amputated in hopes of it making him a faster swimmer. Once it is done, it is too late to change your mind. It won't matter how regretful you are or how much you wish you could take it all back, it's too late. The only way to kill the monster you've created is through revolt and uprising, but this could take decades, and result in millions of people dying, it won't be a pleasant prospect. Throughout history, others have been fortunate enough to have the US intervene militarily or diplomatically on their behalf, and liberate them from tyranny, but the US won't be around this time.

When you buy a car do you go to a dealer or the guy with a trailer set up on a vacant lot? When you purchase new kitchan appliances do you go to a large company like Sears or Lowe's or do you buy from an independent appliance shop with a "New, Used, Repairs" sign in the window? From your love of the free enterprise system and everyone being an "Avis guy" (we work harder) it seems you'd prefer the latter. Do you drop your 4 grand for appliances or 40 grand for a car at the independent business man's address? You know, the entrepreneur. The little businessman. The guy who you consider to be the backbone of society. The honest, hardworking, just trying to make a buck, salt of the earth entrepreneur. The guy who has YOUR best interests at heart. Right???? So, do you deal with them or not?

What happened to the employees who were coerced to invest their pension money in Enron? Or what almost happened to the pensions at GM? Who does one sue? I bet those folks from Enron wished they had an option to invest in a government pension plan even if the return was 0.0000001% because now they have nothing. Zero. Zilch. I wonder how many of them swear by the free enterprise, no-government interference crap spread by the Repubs.

You wrote, "With a free market capitalist system, you have recourse, someone you can go after and take before a court, and ultimately win judgement against."

Really? Tell me, who did the Enron employees sue and what did they get? Have you heard of LLC? Whether we're talking about companies the size of Enron or some local roofer who does a crap job, takes your money, then files for bankruptcy possessing a 10 year old rusty pick-up and a hammer or two as company assets if you depend on them I suggest you familiarize yourself with the location of the local food banks while umbrella shopping.

Yes, tyrants ruled and while the vast majority rose to power through force they also didn't have democracy/voting. Hitler, being the exception in the beginning, soon changed but who cared? Who cared when they came for the socialists and the jews and the.....? And why was that? That was because everyone was looking out for themselves just as you propose today. They say the word "entrepreneur" is derived from "Origin: 1875–80; < French: literally, one who undertakes (some task), equivalent to entrepren ( dre ) to undertake (< Latin inter- inter- + prendere to take, variant of prehendere." I say it's derived from two words, "Entrer: to enter and 'prendre': to take. Enter and take.

The failure of the past, beside ego manics violently taking power, was wide spread corruption. Sort of capitalism without any laws. Everyone for themselves.

What you fail to understand is the capitalist sysytem can continue to operate just the way it does and the government collect enough taxes to help the less fortunate but some folks fight against helping others so in the end the government has to take over. The free market had their chance to come up with ideas for SS and medical care and nothing happened so to go on about it is silly. It never happened and it never would happen.

Absolutely not. Repeal is inevitable. The unpopularity of Obama's top down dictate, will not stand.

Not only will it stand but a one payer system is just around the corner, relatively speaking. As more and more people experience the benefits of ObamaCare there will be no turning back. Future discussion will involve how government medical can be improved. The days of "for profit", "pay or suffer" medical is swiftly coming to an end. Those who have been stealing of the dying will have to find a new way to make a living.

'nuff said.

Shut up stupid. The level of conversation in this board has gone down since your arrival...You are good at the insults, but lack severely in the knowledge dept...Maybe when ekg is taggin' that ass he can drill some brains into you for a change....;)

Or what almost happened to the pensions at GM?

Believe me when I say GM is still going down, last week their stock was valued at $20 per share, and it needs to be $53 to pay us back...they are failing because Obama wanted to pay his union masters back....Great job.

Is it nice, that dreamland you've created for yourself?

We are the last developed country with the barbaric private health insurance system. Selfish, ignorant cave dwellers would like to keep it that way.

It's already been proven I'm superior to you. And if you don't like me on here feel free to ban me.
