I alluded to this on another thread but I think it deserves to be a topic.
Yesterday, Thing challenged me to 'actually listen' to BLM during the course of a debate. Granted, I'm not an authority on the group and my knowledge is comprised of them talking over Bernie's podium; the time they confronted Hillary, and even Hillary, asked them to come up with something coherent and she would sit down and discuss it with them. Bill Clinton [our first self-identified black president lol] had to back them up at one point.
That was pretty much the extent of my knowledge on BLM. My take on BLM is they are racialist rabble rousers---and probably not representative of mainstream blacks.
But I thought maybe Thing was right: perhaps I had some preconceived notions about the group that I should disabuse myself of.
Then last night I was watching the Kelly File and lovely Kelly had a panel on race relations. It was about 20 or 30 individuals with different opinions on the matter. It was actually worth watching. At any rate, there was at least one BLM *member* there. I assume that since she got invited to speak that she wasn't some fringe spokeswoman for BLM; but rather, someone who could speak for the BLM in at least a semi-official capacity.
She advocates abolishing police.
I was like 'really lol?' I don't even know what to say about that. Who does she think she's going to call if she ever needs a cop? She's from Chicago and they have some pretty nasty gangs in Chicago. Who, or what, will keep them from turning Chicago into Mogadishu?
Rather than having my mind changed my initial suspicions were confirmed: These people are loons, their ideas are dangerous and they should be marginalized, and not listened to, because they are part of the problem and not the solution.
