Abortion Backlash Freaking Out Republicans

They are unborn children...

That's only one, largely discredited view, TOP.

They could just as easily be described as unwanted clumps of cells, not unlike malignant tumors.

I feel obligated to balance one extreme view against the other,
feeling all along,
that mine is the less extreme.

Perspective is everything, but in the end,
it's the American Christian Taliban trying to stop women from having reproductive freedom,
not sophisticated America forcing right wing women to abort their ill-advised offspring.

As a hard left social democrat, I'm mostly about universal healthcare, union friendly labor laws, and sophisticated public education.
If I have to muddle in these social issues, however, there's none about which I feel more strongly.

Human fetuses and embryos are not children.
In school, we had them in jars, floating in formaldehyde.
As a teacher, I'm sure that you had them too.

Well I had a baby and that's how I choose to describe her as she developed... I did not have a "clump of cells" shower...;) my dad was a biology teacher so yes we had embryos in jars..no human ones... I have to admit, though, the Smithsonian had unborn children in jars...ones that had deformities or genetic problems that did not allow them to survive... they were in a room not open to the general public as I recall... I'll never be able to unsee those...All that being said, honestly I don't think we agree on very much and that's okay because what we do agree on is awesome... we love our pups and I think you should get a buddy for your avatar. ;)

Middle America versus the coasts, right?
Freshman biology, high school, fourteen-year-olds; we had human embryos in jars.

This was Boston,
where ethnic CATHOLICS took control from the Episcopalian Blue Bloods more than a hundred years ago,
and we had the academic freedom to have that in 1960/1961.

Not to make a big deal out of it, but this nation is geographically diverse to an extreme.

They told you they were human embryos...lol ..;) That's kind of fascinating though ... my dad didn't have a single one of those unborn babies in jars and he was teaching then... I don't ever recall anything unborn at one time in jars at all when I was teaching... we did have cow's eyes and frog dissection... but we never did either of those with our students...

shall we start posting pictures of what women's bodies look like after the abortion is over and PP is selling the body parts for stem cell research?......

The GOP is going to continue to pay dearly for their abortion stance, and adding to that they're stand on guns. You have lost before the polls even open.

We know where one silly idea comes from when we see someone classify the unborn as "children".

Try to get it right, Marty..."unborn children."

If the unborn child is not murdered by the mother, that unborn child will become a born child...Marty.

Do you understand now, Marty.

It’s a lockout item with Pro Lifers.

The far left will never agree to first trimester limitations. Many of them want after birth abortion.

It is now illegal except in states whose legislatures make it legal.

That is a start.

Grats for one of the dumbest posts ever.

Then a sperm is a unborn child.

Get a dictionary, if you are able to use one.

But maybe you think the illegal immigrants packed like sardines at the border are "unnaturalized citizens".

Unless you have the votes, which Republicans don’t, you can either compromise or watch it go further away from what you want. And Republicans may have the votes in certain red states but as we’ve already seen it will cost them in purple to blue leaning ones.

so this compromise you speak of.......how many dead children do you think we will have to settle for?.....maybe 100% of the population of Wyoming every year?........

After the Republican Party’s disappointing performance in the 2022 midterms, fueled in large part by a backlash to the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, the Republican National Committee recommitted itself to anti-abortion maximalism.

A resolution adopted at the R.N.C.’s winter meeting in January urges Republican lawmakers “to pass the strongest pro-life legislation possible.” Addressing their party’s poor showing in November, it said that Republicans hadn’t been aggressive enough in defending anti-abortion values, urging them to “go on offense in the 2024 election cycle.”

The 11-point loss of the Republican-aligned candidate in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court election on Tuesday has influential conservatives rethinking this strategy. “Republicans had better get their abortion position straight, and more in line with where voters are, or they will face another disappointment in 2024,” said a Wall Street Journal editorial.

Ann Coulter tweeted, “The demand for anti-abortion legislation just cost Republicans another crucial race,” and added, “Please stop pushing strict limits on abortion, or there will be no Republicans left.” Jon Schweppe, policy director of the socially conservative American Principles Project, lamented, “We are getting killed by indie voters who think we support full bans with no exceptions.”

Seeming to care more about protecting guns than school children probably isn't a good look either, and it gives a lie to the "sanctity of life" claim.

Everything they do now is a bad look. Abortion, guns, voter suppression, gay and trans bashing, book bannings, support of their cult leader..... ALL OF IT. They have so overplayed their hand that they are unlikely to recover for years, maybe decades. The stain on the party can't be washed out. They had dozens of off ramps from Trump, but they just kept driving on that highway to hell. We have finally reached the inflection point. The voter turnout in 2024 is going to wash away much of the stench, leaving the Republicans wallowing in their own shit.

You don’t have to compromise at all if you don't wish too. But if we’re talking about winning elections the position you hold will cost the Republicans more than it will help and then you’ll have far less of a say in the policy that’s made.

And therein lies the party's problems. I've tried to have, for example, gun discussions with some of the Trumpers. I acknowledge that the second amendment gives them the right to own guns, and suggest that maybe, just MAYBE we could put some additional measures in place. Their answer? FUCK OFF. GO AHEAD AND TRY TO TAKE MY GUNS YOU LIBERAL FUCK.

So I'm done trying to compromise. They need to be erased from the public discourse.
