A sad comentary on our Capitolist system: Marijuana!

I was reading the above article about how the Marijuana industry is moving from underground to legitimate and was struck by how the issue has evolved, not based on if the drug being illegal is what's best for America, but based on how much money stands to be made and who wants to make money in the industry.

Sure the marijuana industry has existed for as long or longer than our capitalist system has existed, but its been kept underground and illegitimate. The money has not been taxed and "legitimate" businesses have been forced to stay out of the industry.

So "Big Tobacco" was taken down in America in the last 10 years with the cancer lawsuits, they are not strong enough to fight legalization, then in many places medical marijuana became legal and so the industry developed a lobby. The lobby then began a systematic effort to expand the legality and acceptability of the marijuana industry, some money gets put into the effort and BAM, soon marijuana will be legal.

Not based on what's good for the Health and Safety of the American people, but based on where the money is.

This is a great example of how our system values money over freedom!

The drive to increase the resources we control (i.e., wealth or money) is ALWAYS a factor in the formation of laws and not less so when it is involved in the criminal justice system or mandated treatment, quite a bit of it coming in financed through taxation and the rest paid as blood money to avoid prosecution. You cannot avoid or change the natural human desire to increase the resources we control, nor should you want to do so. An above board market is preferable as it is more honest.
 
By the way - I hope someone IS studying to see if smoking pot also causes lung cancer...

Personally, I prefer it baked in brownies but alas, it's best if brownies remain off my food list...
 
The new wave is vaporizing, no burning of plant material.
There are studies showing no lung cancer from smoking, but why risk it.
vape rip it!
 
Must admit I am curious to try vaporizing. A friend of mine has a pretty high dollar hand unit. No muss, no fuss.

They are and the studies I have read show no link.

The same report showed marijuana slows or stops the growth of certain lung cancer cells...

The NCI report also examined whether patients who smoke marijuana rather than ingesting it orally are exposed to a higher risk of lung and certain digestive system cancers. According to the government, 19 studies “failed to demonstrate statistically significant associations between marijuana inhalation and lung cancer.” The report also identified a separate study of 611 lung cancer patients that showed marijuana was “not associated with an increased risk of lung cancer or other upper aerodigestive tract cancers and found no positive associations with any cancer type.”

There are several known carcinogens in the smoke, but there has not been much to show that regular use will significantly increase the risk of cancer. Burning wood in a fireplace or campfire exposes everyone in the vicinity to carcinogens, as well.

That's the point of vaporizing, all but eliminates carcinogens as no combustion occurs.
