A real example of how Biden has created supply chain issues

Last July, Biden signed an executive order mandating railroads accept something called "forced access." This was a government mandate to a non-problem that now forces one railroad to accept use of its track system by another railroad at usually below market value. Prior to this government mandate, railroads entered into specific agreements to use each other's rail systems on their own.

While the rule hasn't been finalized yet, it is about to be by the STB. If it is, it will raise costs of rail shipments and slow delivery of goods further.

Here's how a switch between two rail systems works:

I'm surprised no one has commented on this since when it goes into effect, it's going to increase inflation because the cost of transportation will rise. It will also potentially slow delivery of goods further than they already are.

There’s a Good Reason Biden Singled Out Railroads for Criticism

The industry’s own regulator warns that consolidation has “created the potential for monopolistic pricing.”

When President Joe Biden issued an executive order to increase competition in the U.S. economy, most of the news coverage focused on what he said about 21st century industries such as the internet and pharmaceuticals. But Biden also had something to say about railroads, which have drawn complaints about monopolistic practices since their birth in the 19th century.

Biden’s order touches on one of the most sensitive issues in freight railroading: reciprocal switching, which is akin to net neutrality for the internet except that instead of electrons it deals with rails, switches, and long trains laden with everything from coal to soybeans. Under reciprocal switching, a railroad can pay a competitor to deliver cars for it to a customer that it has no way of reaching otherwise. Reciprocal switching breaks the monopoly control that a railroad has over its captive customers.

The railroad system breaking down is the governments fault first....profiteers who dont give a fuck about America second.

As the industry sources I listed show, this is a solution to a non-problem. The way things are running right now there is no monopoly pricing. The various railroads work together to their mutual benefit without government interference. All Biden's doing is adding complexity and government regulation where none is currently needed.

Please read my links that I referred to that explains the need, the popularity, and the reason for the executive order in very good detail.

Thanks!

I did read it, you seem not to have...

Less pleased was the Association of American Railroads, which said the executive order “throws an unnecessary wrench into freight rail’s critical role” in transportation. “For decades,” it said in a statement, “large corporations dissatisfied with paying fair-market rates to ship products by rail have sought to leverage political influence to change that framework and force railroads to hand over traffic to competitors who might charge less.”

True, regulators can be clumsy and subject to political influence. That’s why economists tend to favor free-market competition over regulation whenever possible. What’s more, reciprocal switching—or “forced switching,” as the railroads call it—is difficult to implement in practice. A must-watch video created by the Association of American Railroads shows that delivering a single car from the siding of one railroad to the siding of another railroad can take 68 operations over six days.

I posted the video they're referring to.

This is a regulation to a non-problem that corporations that ship lots of stuff by rail want to force down railroad's throats so they can profit from it even as it screws railroads. Biden is just being his usual idiot self and going along with whoever throws more money at him.

Sir Biden is not an idiot! That is your opinion, and no one expects Trump Supporters to speak favorably of Biden or his policies, or his XO's.

But yes, the Bloomberg report explains the popularity, the support, and the need for the Executive Order.

Things like this regulation should never be done on the basis of popularity. They should be based on sound economic and industrial planning. That isn't the case here.

Oh, and, Biden is an idiot. He couldn't even finish something as simple as law school without copying other's homework... As you seem to like majority rule, a majority of Americans now think Biden's an idiot.

Majority now believe that Joe Biden is kind of an idiot: Poll

The truth is a lot darker.....Biden fronts a Revolution which is systematically and unrelentingly uninventing America.

I'll admit that Biden's approval ratings are low, however, I know why.

The preliminaries were a huge upset for the Bernie Bots. To a degree that many of the really bitter ones, did not even vote in the general election in 2020.
Yes, for them, it was Bernie or nothing. But then again, millions of Bernie supporters did vote for the Democrat- Joe Biden.

But, because not much of the things they wanted like FREE healthcare Insurance, FREE college for everyone, and the Government paying off their student loans, has not passed through Congress, they are blaming Biden and giving him unfavorable ratings in the polls.

So this is a Democrat on Democrat thing due to the divisions in our party between Centrists/Conservative Democrats and Progressives.

The polls give off false impressions!

Many of these same Bernie Bots will be voting for Democrats in the Mid-Terms even though they are currently giving Joe Biden unfavorable approval ratings.

It's not like suddenly they hate Joe Biden and are going to be voting for Republicans!

I think most people never got past the long and complex switching action required.

I used to work on a railroad. I know what that would be like.
Yes, it will raise costs and slow deliveries.

However,

Most shipment is by truck or air. Railroads carry primarily bulk freight. The OTHER problem is also being ignored here, which is by far the bigger one:

The cost of diesel fuel.

Trains need it. Trucks need it. Tractors need it. They aren't just going to eat those costs. Shipping rates are climbing and fast.

Even worse, Biden is considering implementing price controls on fuel. If he does, it will be the mid 70's gas lines all over again.
Trucks and trains won't be able to get fuel to run them.

Price controls never work. They always cause shortages. No one is going to sell fuel for less than it cost them to obtain it.
