Easter isnt a Christian holiday. It is a pagan holiday celebrating the Babylonian goddess Istar "pronounced Easter" of sex and fertility.

Christ died before sundown, and the Jews always go by sun-up to sundown, which is why Sabbath customs kick-off on Friday evening. Thus, one day is thought to have gone by on Friday night.

Actually it is becoming quite apparent it is the accurate summation of the time and is becoming more accepted among many differing Christian sects. It actually fits in with the Passover as it was celebrated at the time, for one.

Christ was given over to Pilate and reviled by all the Jews, both rebels and "conservatives", before he was crucified. It was why Barabas was released rather than Jesus.

depends which Easter you are celebrating, obviously.....the one with eggs and bunnies or the one with crosses and rolled away stones......my Easter is not a pagan holiday.....

At the time Jews were the MAJORITY and were an entrenched Conservative government structure.

Jesus was the Radical Liberal protester with crowds of people following him. The Conservatives used FEAR to promote public support for the exicution of Jesus. (They were Pro-Death Penalty.) The Conservatives were upset at Jesus for giving food to the poor, spending time with Prostitutes, and challanging the Governments entanglement with religen.
