A majority of the country have a favorable view of the "tea party" protests

The cynical part of me wonders what statistical magic Scott Rasmussen did to reach the politically significant number of 51%. But I do feel that this poll reflects something close to reality.

Rasmussen seems to be going off the deep end. I have no doubt that this poll is entirely bullshit, or was fudged in someway. No more trustworthy source seems to have done a straight approval poll though, probably because they know it would result in a resounding defeat of evil.

His polls of late have taken to comparing the "Political Elite" to the "Common People" in their polling. I'm like, WTF? How do you decide if someone is part of the "Political Elite" or not? Then I look at his methodology, and he asks people a bunch of vague populisty questions that practically no one would say no to except to be farcical:

-- Generally speaking, when it comes to important national issues, whose judgment do you trust more - the American people or America’s political leaders?

-- Some people believe that the federal government has become a special interest group that looks out primarily for its own interests. Has the federal government become a special interest group?

-- Do government and big business often work together in ways that hurt consumers and investors?


Naturally, only 7% disagreed. Rasmussen, for some odd reason, considered it significant and worthwhile to commission a poll everyone already knew the answer to.

It's like going up and asking someone "Do you support my right-wing populist politics and if you say no you're a child molester?"
 
Yeah I remember seeing him on FOX News talking about those polls when they first came out and I was surprised at how stupid it was.

It's interesting how fast pollsters lose their credibility. Happened to Zogby too when he became a political tool. In 2004, Rasmussen was the only polling firm to predict the outcome of the presidential election to within a tenth of a percentage. Now, he commissions ridiculous polls to be trumpeted by partisans.

I do think it's amusing that even 7% of the people disagreed with those questions though.

Admittedly, Rasmussen is generally regarded as one of the less reputable pollsters when comparred to Zogby and USA Today & Gallup (they have the habit of teaming up for many major polls).

Yes, it was a poll of cool people. If we polled 1 Million idiots on the streets of X cities, I would emphatically reject it.

It was poll done of 1000 adults before anyone chews my head off. Though that just bodes even better as far as this poll is concerned.

Oh please. figures never lie and liars figure. The bet a dollar to a whole in a doughnut that most Americans could give a rats ass about "tea parties".
 
There isn't really anything on how the question was worded. I support dissent in general, and people's right to protest. By those measures, I have a "favorable" view of the protests, as well.

TEA stands for "Taxed enough already!" When juxtaposed against the fact that the vast majority of working Americans got a tax BREAK this year, it does make you question the intelligence of those who actually support "the movement."

Still, I support their right to voice whatever it is they think they don't like...
