A little perspective in the budget bullshit.

that is some serious horse puckey nigel and a completely illogical take on the budget problem. you have to make up your own facts in order to defend massive spending no one can afford. you're in denial.

It's an analogy, dude. But, pray tell, which facts are "made up?"

I used a very similar example a few months back. Your economic house is collapsing, and you make a few token adjustments to address the crisis.

It's not a bad way for politicians to think. If you can't afford the big house & the 2 cars & the vacation abroad, you downsize your house, sell a car & take a road trip to the nearest shore...

Or, you increase revenue by getting second jobs (in this case, increasing taxes on capital gains!)

Fix that for. The gov't is never offered a raise. They take it against their employer's will.

Again, it's an analogy. It's an analogy that you posted. Rather than say, "Well, the government isn't a family and does not work the same way" I engaged within the framework of your analogy. Forgive me if it is not perfect, but it's your analogy.

I admire all the millionaires and billionaires who have come forward and stated they are willing to pay more in taxes to help the USA out of its supposed crisis!

Tell us... how many have written that extra check to Uncle Sam?

How many of them said.... 'to hell with all those deductions that I can legally take... I WONT take them. I am going to pay more than I need to!'

Oh, of course, Why am I not surprised. BTW, did you have the decency to read my article, because if you did, you would know I am not offering a song & dance with this budget bullshit.

Ironic, you have no problem claiming a magical ability to see inside my head.

No, I did not read the article linked in that post. You quoted my post and then started yours with "Yes, I did. It is truly ironic that you right wing deficit hawks had your tongues cut out for 8 years. Did you grow a new one?".

You called me a "right wing deficit hawk" and made the accuation that I was silent during the 8 years of the Bush debacle. That is where I stopped reading. Just a clue, if you start off a post making baseless accusations and calling me names, I usually don't read the rest of the bullshit.

Try talking to me like a human being, quite making leaps of logic based solely on your personality, find out whether I did something before you make an accusation, and we can have a civil discussion.

They sure seemed pissed when GE took those legal deductions.

If you have read the article you would see how they arrived at their numbers. If you, like Nigel, want to address the issue of the screw up for year prior to this, I am listening. But its really not relevant. I am not picking out a single party. I am holding every single politician in Washington responsible.

Your article is written by a blogger who calls himself 'philg'... Oh, THAT philg, the leading authority on economic policy philg...

Did you see the actual numbers from our nation debt & spending? Any of those numbers look vaguely familiar?

And the sarcasm about economic policy is almost funny. But where in my OP was expertise in economic policy needed?? The "family" spends FAR more than they make. In order to prevent future problems they cut out a tiny percentage of what they borrow to continue spending like drunken sailors.

What part of the OP or the words above is inaccurate?? Don't just make vague references to your political enemies, bring something factual and concrete to the table.

Add THIS to what you c & p'd in the OP, and that is what I read.

Understanding Congress’s solution to the federal deficit problem

News accounts on the latest federal budget deal gave the numbers in a vacuum, e.g., “The deal cuts $38 billion from last year’s budget. It’s being called the largest domestic spending cut in U.S. history” (source). How can an individual voter make sense of quantities that are ordinarily written in scientific notation? I think the easiest way is to divide everything by 100,000,000 (10^8).

Let’s start with federal spending. The FY 2011 federal budget is approximately $3.82 trillion (3.82×10^12). Of that, approximately $2.17 trillion will be paid for by taxes collected and the remaining $1.65 trillion will be borrowed from our grandchildren. If we divide everything by 100 million, the numbers begin to make more sense.

Then come back when you get over having your feelings bruised, then read the article I posted.

Its not a matter of having feelings bruised. It is a matter of you showing that you have already determined who I am and what I think. What I actually do or post will not matter as long as you get to rant against the vast right wing conspiracy.

And as far as coming back when they get over bruised feelings, the fact that you post that after throwing tantrum after tantrum about me calling you Bfoon instead of Bfgrn is the best laugh I have had all day.

Hypocrisy thy name is Bfoon.

Let me help you.....

The govt spends $3.82 trillion. ($38,200.00?) They earn $2.17 trillion from taxes. ($21,700.00) They borrow $1.65 trillion. ($16,500.00?)

Then RAISE taxes. It is how responsible America Presidents and Congresses paid for the depression and WWII.

We are spending billions of dollars wastefully, and you want to let that go and raise taxes? Other than your standard cash cow chant of "tax the rich" surely you know the people will not stand for it.

Before you sent the gov't to dig deeper into my pockets, have them stop wasting money paying farmers not to plant, subsidizing bullshit, and slap a few holes in that boated leech that is the DoD budget.

Winterborn, it is always interesting to see some of the newer folks come on with pre-conceived notions about a person's politics and stances just from looking at thier moniker or reading their short profile. I can think of several who upon seeing "democrat" by my name immediately thought I was a democrat cut from the mold of desh or someone similar. Same with you and a couple of other fiscal conservatives on here. If these folks had been here all along they would have seen you guys rail against Bush for spending "like a drunken sailor" during the Bush years and would then realize where you are coming from. The thing is that those years (Bush) are gone and now it is Obama's turn. But the attitude seems to be (from most except Oncelor and the like) that you can't say anything negative about Obama or blame him for anything. I am less a fiscal conservative than most so the subject of this thread is not as interesting as some to me, but as a spectator on the sidelines it has been quite comical.

how complex can it be to understand you can't spend more than you take in for 25 years?

It is why we should raise revenue! Which the Republicans refuse to do, to me, it is the price they need to pay to live in this great country. I heard a comment about Twitter this morning, that their overseas markets are expanding, but they are losing ground here in the USA, and they need our market!

Corporations like to pretend they can go else where, but the fact of the matter is that the USA is still a reliable, stable country where they can do business without too much worry. They need to pay for this security!

Then how hard is it to understand that if you take ALL the money from ALL the people, we would still be in debt.....

Thank you for seeing that, Leaning.

Its funny to me that I am labelled a right wing neocon for demanding fiscal responsibility. At the same time I am labeled a libtard for suggesting that gays are not despicable perverts.

I guess that being disliked by the rabid extremes of each side is a badge I wear with pride.
