A great man died

Perhaps I'm being interested by what I read of American posts. I don't think such religious hatred has been evident since the Crusades stopped attacking Islam and turned to robbing Christians, because it was easier.

Um, the Crusades were a result of Islam attacking us for 350+ years...

I dont think so as Nigeria is influenced much more by its European overlords and European culture. I worked for a British company at the time.
I think your giving America too much credit here.
He is a Welsh Marxist with a jaundiced view of the world. Although he does talk sense when it comes to the IRA which is more than most on here.

Well be careful of " American Post" as they have a very narrow view of the world. Most have never lived nor worked, mingled with nor experienced any of the culture, politics they advocate. To say your a Socialist or Communist and have never lived in those environments is nothing more than Google cut and paste politics. One has no real experience with it.They merely regurgitate the spin without any first hand experience.
You have a unique view of history.

I enjoy learning others viewpoints and understanding the root of those beliefs.

Quite normal, I'd say: I have spent a great deal of my time fighting racism (or whatever you want to call it) and other ways of deliberately dividing people so that they won't challenge the rule of fat thieves such as Trump. I was brought up on what had happened to the Jews in Germany and in what the Empah was doing to Africa, let alone on the way we ourselves were treated by the ruling-class English arseholes. Our HUGE local hero was Paul Robeson, incidentally (friend of my father's was a friend of his), and I was brought up on the way your masters treated him. One of my best friends was an army officer in Kaduna, while my aunt lived in Northern Rhodesia during the days of the fascist regime of Smith there, and I was of course very largely involved in the struggle against Apartheid, so I don't think I am exactly dependent on Google, which I don't look at much thank you! :)

Wasn't targeting you friend with my Google comment. You and I have experience and that is why we can have a civilized discussion.

SOCIALIST

"Yet, in that powerful neighbor to the north, we can't even seem to afford to universal healthcare to our citizens .. something that all civilized nations provide."

In a free Republic, we have the freedom to work, earn and take care of ourselves and have no need to live as slaves on the government plantation. You say you're a socialist, go live in a socialist country and quit whining about life in the United States.

Have you ever bought a lotto ticket?

You too are welcome to leave anytime...I hear Somalia has an active free market.

Cuba would have reformed decades ago if the US hadn't been so vindictive and applied such harsh sanctions.

Maybe, or we might have given them the infusion of cash that would have kept them going. We can have an opinion on that, but we can't know it. I personally think we should have traded with them. But the reality is when nobody but the US is "sanctioning" somebody they don't really work. When you can just go to Canada and buy the cigars, it really isn't an effective sanction at all.

Ian Smith was a pussy cat compared to that monster Mugabe. He said that they weren't ready to take control and he was bloody right. They have destroyed the country and turned it from the breadbasket of Africa into a basket case instead.

but you have to look at the before picture too. Under Batista the populace was little more then serfs.
Batista was corrupt, and most of the resources went to the oligarchs.

So it was a natural tendency to correct thru central planning. which of course brought it'sown problems -but still allowed the country to beter many lives.
It's going to be interesting where Cuba goes after the Castro's -moer socialism,or more capitalism?

Yes, as I said Batista was bad, he suspended the constitution and was corrupt to the core; however trading for more brutality is not really much of a trade. Batista was bad, but not so bad that people would literally disassemble their car to make a makeshift raft to try to get to the United States. People like BAC can pretend that the "revolution" was all rainbows and ice cream but the reality is, people quite literally drove to the beach and disassembled their car to make rafts that barely floated to cross the ocean to get away from Castro.

Are you saying all of those things didn't happen? You're sounding like an American leftist before the fall of the Iron Curtain, talking about how much better everything was in the USSR than in America.

Because he believes it. In the USSR there was "no prostitution"... though a foreign traveler could, for less than they payed for a hotel room, have a girl spend the night. That girl would go to the foreign trade stores to spend the money then sell the stuff on the black market for three times what she paid for them... But there was no prostitution in the USSR... because the propaganda said so.

There is no way to get around the reality, people desperately escape from Cuba, nobody but a wanted criminal has to evade and escape to get out of the United States.

That was mostly around 1994 when Castro imposed severe restrictions on travel from Cuba. BAC does seem to have a love of despots, or at least left wing ones, Gaddafi, Mugabe and maybe even Pol Pot for all I know.

That's simply the way COMMUNISM ROLLS in its quest for "SOCIAL JUSTICE".....you must conform, lockstep with the collective message or you end up in one of the 100,000,000 shallow unmarked graves that social justice has reserved for those who would question the validity of such a utopian ideology where everyone is EQUALLY represented through wealth redistribution. Somehow the majority of that redistributed wealth ends up at the TOP. Just like Casto....who declared the Billions taken from Batista...to be HIS property.

Now compare that historical reality with the modern democrat SOCIALIST PARTY...who demands income redistribution of the 1%ers. Where is that wealth? It stays at the top for the elite to distribute as they see fit....it only reaches main street when something must be purchased to ensure the collective FUTURE POWER. Why can't communism work? Human nature and Free Will.....mankind is a corruptible sinful example of biological life. When given a chance, where punitive action is not possible, human nature wills out....greed takes over...when there is no checks or balances of power possible. Communism always ends with REVOLUTION due the collapse of its own hypocritical weight. Again....look at the modern democrat party and its obvious pending collapse, dying because its moving further and further left assuming its growing nearer to a protected base....when the rats at the bottom are jumping from a sinking vessel...because they are tired of dinning on crumbs while the elite eat steak.

Actually, I just re-read my initial comment to BAC. I don't feel as though I was insulting him. Part of his "signature" is the word SOCIALIST. So, why indeed would a socialist not want to live in a socialist country? I was drawing the logical conclusion. If he himself says he's a socialist, it's not an insult to call him one. If I had wanted to insult him I would have called him an American.

Learn the difference between socialism and communism
FYI The US, Canada and Europe all mix Socialism and Capitalism.

Bautista didn't suspend the constitution because "America".. Seriously? What do they teach people in history classes nowadays? Castro had a chance to create something awesome, unfortunately he chose to go a different direction that included brutality, torture, and murder.

Sounds a lot like Dubya

When have you EVER heard me even mention the word 'Mugabe?' How about NEVER.

When have you EVER read me even mentioning Pol Pot? How about NEVER.

Both you and Damo have failed to counter what I've ACTUALLY said about Castro .. now you both just make shit up.

.. and YES, I can EASILY defend Gaddafi .. and if you'd like to try countering that, be my guest.

Just try sticking to what I actually say instead of making shit up.

Be my guest.

There is no way to get around the tremendous benefits to the quality of life that Castro brought to the Cuban people .. and you've proven that because you've not offered one scintilla of evidence that he didn't .. AND YOU CAN'T.

If you can .. LET'S SEE IT.

What's the problem?
