No, what happened is that guns became easier to use and their killing power was increased. So before, in wild west times, the most any pistol could hold was six shots. Semi-automatic rifles weren't a thing. Shotguns scattered.

Today, guns can hold dozens, hundreds of rounds of ammo and fire all those rounds in under a minute.

If you want a musket, I'm fine with that. A gun that takes 1 minute to load seems about right for me. That's all the protection anyone would need, right? One shot.

Things aren't worse...they're about exactly the same.

The same number of people killed by guns in 1980 is the number killed by guns in 2018.
