A good refresher article on Obama's recession.

5 weeks on the brink: Reliving meltdown of '08

It turned out to be the beginning of something much more dire - far beyond a correction, far beyond even a garden-variety recession, far beyond anything most people had lived through.

What it turned out to be was the beginning of five weeks that shook the American financial system to its foundations. The stock market convulsed. Wall Street itself was redrawn. The word "depression" was suddenly on everyone's lips.

One year later, the economy is only now beginning to show signs - tentative at that - of pulling out of the Great Recession, the longest economic contraction since World War II. The Dow, while still more than 30 percent off its peak, is no longer the source of a daily national ulcer.

I wonder what would have happened if we followed the advice of movement conservatives and message board rightwingers?: Kept the government out of intervening in the economy, let the banks crater, slashed and contracted government spending, and not passed any economic stimulus?

I’m thinking, probably a second Great Republican Depression.

LOL You got any way to verify any of that crap helped? Because from the looks of it, all it did was create defecits

How predictable can you be now?

Naturally, none of it helped; and if things were worse, it would be 100% because of the actions Obama took.

We will never know what would have happened had we not done TARP.
We had already pumped close to 2 trillion into the banking system prior to TARP.

I was and still am against TARP as I believe in personal responsibility for corporations.
If they can't cut it they should fail. If our country cannot handle that then we need to do things differently.

A country needs to have personal responsibility to itself. A society letting itself collapse because of the retarded musings of an aging man is a society that hasn't accepted the personal responsibility of its conservative transgressions.

or criminals running wall street would have gone broke, like they should have. instead, the american taxpayers were screwed so the wall street crooks were not.

You attribute far too much power to me :)

Sure. Cuz there's no connection between Wall Street & Main Street whatsoever; people don't really need banks, or the market.

Good call.

The economic consensus 8 months ago was that we were teetering on the verge of a massive economic meltdown, and possibly headed into another great republican depression.

Is your contention that Obama just got lucky? Clearly we ain't out of the woods, but it sure feels like we dodged a bullet.

I'd love to know what you think would have happened if we followed the advice of message board conservatives, and kept the government from intervening in the economy in socialistic ways, if we had allowed the banks to crater, and if we had slashed government spending and outlays.
