Let me just say this right up front, I really do not have a hard stand on this one way or the other.

But if forced to make a fast and unwanted choice right now, in this time when I believe we have 1,000 other things we should me more concerned with and focused on, I would probably, in a forced and rush decision to say- thumbs down. And I'll tell you why.

Before I do or don't do anything, or make a choice between two choices, I ask myself a couple of questions...

Can we afford to do it, and can we afford not to do it? And in this case, right off the top of my head I do not believe we could afford such a large pay-out of everyone's tax money, and if we don't do it, I don't see that as something that is going to cause any harm in any way to anyone either.

That is just my feelings about it, and if my measly little opinion hurts anyone's feelings, I'll apologize for it in advance. SORRY!

You just shouldn't have even brought this up at a time when I have 1,000 other priorities.

Look at the list of demands being made for reparations. I don’t think you can just make a federal ballot measure saying yes or no to them. (Leaving aside do we even have federal referendums like we do in the states? I can’t recall any)

TTQ, I do agree with some of the things on your extensive list, but not all of them. America needs to make some changes in how we deal with criminals, ppl in poverty, and ppl with mental problems. We need to do much more to raise up minority ppl as far as respect, education, hiring, compensation. That being said, I despise any form of victim mentality. Once that's gotten into you, you're going no where fast. I see that mentality in some of the native ppl I live by, go to school with -- and in women I know who have been in domestic abuse situations. Certainly we all see it in some fragile white males as well. See yourself as a victim and you always will be one. Language is power. Which sounds better to you? "I have cancer" or "I am living with cancer"? "I am a rape victim," or "I am a survivor of rape"? Back in the 60s a lot of us whites saw the Black Power movement as scary, terrifying. Some of us though saw it as empowering.

To me "reparations" sounds like victimhood. I prefer empowerment.

Revise and Revamp the ENTIRE JUDICIAL SYSTEM Hold racist Judges, DA's, Prosecutors, etc accountable.
Free Healthcare
Free Education
Raise the minimum wage to at lest 25.00 hr.

And if push comes to shove...…..give us our fuckin 40 acres and a mule!

Indeed. This reminds me of the beggars sitting around the intersection at Walmart..etc., around holidays. "Will work for food....." You give them a sandwich and they throw it at you. The blacks in this nation need reparations for slavery like the KFC needs more chickens. The blacks in this nation have it better than any other black culture on the face of the earth....but they still strum on that old fashion WHITE GUILT fiddle every time someone gives them a beat...……

Hand outs never work....it only engrains generational welfare. Look at the most successful minorities in this nation. Are they native americans who live on the RES dependent upon BIG BROTHER handouts....or the one's that have hitched up their man pants and struck out on their own and told BIG BROTHER to go to hell? The same for the blacks in the projects..... The only thing that hands out generate is POVERTY.

We just need to subtract the cost it takes to clean up ghettoes, feed and house those people that voted for Obama while waiting for their free phone, free coffee, and donuts while waiting in line to murder their unborn child.

Why does white America have a problem with reparations for Black Americans but not for Italian, Indians or Japanese WHO WERE NOT ENSLAVED, who did not build this country, who enjoys the benefits of slave labor, and received reparations after 100 years?

I'd like to discuss with a "liberal" leaning white person.

Oh, you mean the ancestors of slaves who STILL suffer from the racist attitudes, injustices and second-class citizen status that permeated the slavery era in America and the white people who STILL benefit from the privileges afforded them since Black people were brought here, enslaved and forced to work for FREE for 250 years, establishing this country's economic superiority?

Why was it ok to give the descendants of Italians, Indians, Jewish and Japanese reparations 100 years after their descendants were dead?

I still haven't heard and answer/excuse for that?
