Thats certainly answers my question.....I said it's a start. His statement shows that he gets it, and that he is extremely worried about the high price of gas right now. The need for re-election can make a politician very practical.

Not that much drives me battier at this point. Nothing is more laughable than a politician saying we have to "act now" on global warming by proposing a 5% reduction in emissions, which would be negated in about a year w/ population growth. It's all grandstanding, by people who are hopelessly challenged mathematically.
There are loads of good reasons to transition to renewables, but oil is here to stay for the next few decades at minimum, and there are no good reasons not to drill it ourselves...
Now there's a guy with his head literally up his ass....
There can't be any other reason to talk so stupid....even far left pinheads don't say things as dumb as this....
Do what you gotta do....
Anyone that would post, "Neocons want us to drill less so they can make money on the high prices.", in bold....Without adequate explanation is the idiot....like I said....I can only comment on what you actually post....
Bush Neocon or Obama Socialist....is irrelevant....Conservatives have been begging for more domestic drilling for better than 30 years and toI stand by everything I said.
You would understand if you were not a Bush neocon.
Since the problem isn't supply to begin with, I concur that it will do very little (if anything) to reduce prices. But so long as we're going to allow more drilling, why not drill in ANWR? While Alaska should be kept as pristine as possible, it's a hell of a lot easier to fix a leak on land than a mile under the ocean.
It's a start; I was relieved when he announced this. Energy independence involves domestic drilling....
Nuclear power should not only be continued but expanded.Well, I'm waiting for that other shoe to drop...because as they say the devil is in the details. Will Obama just reopen previously moth balled sites? Keep within strict codes regarding Alasaka? And will he keep the alternative energy options alive and kicking? And God only knows what his attitude is towards nuke plants, because IMHO those should NOT be continued.

No one on either side of the political fence is happy with this for obvious reasons. Personally, I just see it as a concession gesture, because it's sure as hell not going to do much regarding current prices at the gas pump.
“Drilling our coasts will do nothing to lower gas prices or create energy independence,” Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club, said in a statement. It will only jeopardize beaches, marine life, and coastal tourist economies, all so the oil industry can make a short-term profit.”
One idiot obviously decided to pipe in.... not surprising that it came from the Sierra Club. For one, this is in no way helping 'short term profits' for oil companies. These are LONG TERM projects. Second, this will ABSOLUTELY help us on the path to energy independence. The two comments show complete ignorance on the matter and thus highlight the knee jerk reaction that is typical from the extreme environmentalists.
Man, you are one Super Freak-ing gas bag! The oil companies will be compensated by gov't for these projects....just as they are now via their tax situation that was lamely defended on the Hill recently. And even when the projects will be completed, they STILL will not make us wholly "independent" of foreign oil, given the projections of reserves and consumption rates. But the oil companies will boost their profits for a few years.
But wait.... we have another contender for 'I have no clue what I am rambling about':
“We’re appalled that the president is unleashing a wholesale assault on the oceans,” Jacqueline Savitz of the environmental group Oceana said on Wednesday. “Expanding offshore drilling is the wrong move if the Obama administration is serious about improving energy security, creating lasting jobs and averting climate change.”
1) It will improve energy security... again... the more of our own we produce, the less we have to buy from foreign countries
2) It will absolutely create lasting jobs HERE IN THE US, rather than provide them to those overseas
3) This has little to do with climate change. No matter how much someone WANTS us to get off of oil, we are not going to cease using it until economically viable options are put in place. We can begin with Nat gas use in transportation as a short term stop gap, but we are going to need to drill for that as well.... HERE IN THE US.
Man, would I love to debate a few minutes to whoever said "averting climate change." What do they think? If we don't drill domestically, we'll magically stop using fossil fuels?
It's just annoying at this point. Even if AGW is a fact, and it's not, we'd have to go cold turkey as a planet, immediatly, to maybe - just maybe - have any effect whatsoever. They have to get off of that argument...

There is an amazing similarity in the end of the world scenario presented by the Warmers and the one presented by the Christians.
Wasn't it just a few ten years ago I read that irreversible damage would be made in 5 years? No way to stop it now I guess...
Bah.

Obama's greatest talent is speaking out of both sides of his mouth with no hands~
I suggest you all buy some sweaters and long underwear for next winter when heating oil be $4.50+ a gal....
In the mean time, the pinheads in Washington will be complaining about a gov. subsidy for the oil companies
Pay lip service to domestic drilling while nothing gets done
and blames Opec, Conservatives or Republicans for the high prices....
Bush Neocon or Obama Socialist....is irrelevant....Conservatives have been begging for more domestic drilling for better than 30 years and to
claim otherwise is nothing but a lie....the ridicule of Palin's "drill, baby drill" cry is obvious proof and Reagans call for more drilling is more proof....
You might be an idiot, I don't know for sure, but I can truthfully state with certainty, you're a liar....
