A group of 95 House Republicans has written Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding he name a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden, accusing the AG of having a conflict of interest on the matter.
The letter cites an ongoing federal probe into Hunter's taxes and finances, accusing him of using his father's position as vice president to gain 'wealth and influence.'
It also makes reference to the Trump era Russia probe – saying Trump endured 'closer scrutiny' for 'lesser accusations.' In that matter, former President Donald Trump was infuriated that then-AG Jeff Sessions named Robert Mueller as special counsel to probe Trump campaign contacts with Russians.
'We are concerned that in the case of Hunter Biden the Department has an actual conflict of interest and certainly has the appearance of a conflict of interest that could prevent a fair and impartial investigation of his activities,' the lawmakers write. 'You were nominated to your position by Hunter Biden's father and ultimately work for him,' they added.
