Generic doesn't usually predict much as it ignores individual candidates (like Oz and Fetterman). Unless an organization looks at each congressional district and senate race it is not likely to be very informed.

Numbers are also important. This year there were 24 Republican and 14 Democratic senate seats which gives Democrats the advantage (depending on whether the were in a Trump or Biden state).

This has been the worst performance for the Republican Party in over two decades, and that is despite inflation, the stock market woes, the economy and anything else you want to include. This should have been a republican cakewalk!
