52,000

exactly.... we can start defense spending with shutting down all the bases we no longer need. It would actually have a BENEFIT to our economy if we brought those troops home and they spent their money HERE rather than in another country.

i lean towards teh same view as you....but i would ask...do you think our troops over there provide some stability in the world? if so, is that stability worth it?

i noticed you ignored my post onceler, now link up :cof1:

Which post did I ignore now?

It's always deja vu with you. You ignore every question I put out there, and tapdance & distract, then call out these phantom posts that I allegedly ignored.

It's hard to keep up w/ the deflections. Ask again, and I'll answer straight up.

LOL

The guy who never answers a thing, and is always demanding links.

Sorry - missed the joke, because I was too caught up in the irony.

I'm not projecting.

At least within the confines of this board, you have no self-awareness whatsoever. My characterizations are 100% accurate.

uh...like i'm demanding links when you DARED me to ask for links...LOL

you're such a tool...seriously stop the projecting and bullshit whining you always engage in and debate....

btw...don't forget those links :cof1:

Workin' on it. It's honestly a much tougher search than I thought - no specific terms to search, and "Bush" brings up hundreds of threads. I will get them, though.

I dared you because I know that I've had that conversation dozens of times on this board with some of the posters mentioned. Your incredible arrogance to assume you know every one of those conversations is somewhat beyond comprehension, but I don't have any doubt about it, which is why I will end up finding the links.

When I do, I'll expect a fair amount of groveling shame out of you - just to give you a head's up on that....

guess you shouldn't have made the dare...huh...:cof1:

I think in some regions... absolutely... ie bases in South Korea, former Soviet Republics, Columbia

In other regions... no... Germany, Italy or any other Western European country

due to russia no longer being...well...russia? how big is germany's military?

i agree with italy. and i'm not sure why we still need to be in japan, we have a huge base on guam. i agree with SK...

The Pacific Rim is a huge powder keg, so I can see having forces in Japan, S. Korea, the Philippines, etc., but there is no reason to have troops in Western Europe, and the problems that can arise in Eastern Europe have zero effect on the USA. Furthermore, the problems that go on in S. America would be 100% economic if we ended the war on drugs, thus toppling the cartels in Columbia, for example. Minor applications of military force would be necessary to clean up in the aftermath, and then we could remove our military presence there, as well. We should also open up relations to Cuba and end the embargo. From there we can decide whether or not to close Gitmo.

I disagree on Eastern Europe, especially for the countries around the Black Sea. If we were to allow Russia to resume control of them, it could cut off a potential supply of oil (and nat gas).

That makes me a partisan hypocrite? For doing something that I wouldn't have done but which you state unambiguously that I would have done because you have some fixed idea about what "we all do" and you lump me in with whoever you have in mind, just like bravo?

Okey dokey. I don't think I have ever done that with anyone before. Hey, Good Luck, I think if aliens landed in your backyard that you would deny it to the press, so that makes you a liar!

Can you hear yourself?

Like I said - your problem, not mine. Too bad for you.
You are truly an idiot, studying hard to be a simple moron.

Fine. If Bush had pulled this same trick, you'd be celebrating in the streets, and I was wrong to accuse you otherwise.

The fact remains 52,000 troops is way too big a force to take the term "advisers" and "non-combat" at face value. Striker units are way to heavily armed to believe those terms at face value. Add these factors to the fact the these terms have been used before to hoodwink the public into supporting misuse of our military, condemning our soldiers to live thousands of miles from their families, risking dying before they ever see their little girls, boys, wives, husbands, parents, etc, etc., and the BS meter pegs out at maximum. It's BULLSHIT and yes, it PISSES ME OFF when I see idiots swallowing their bullshit like it was candy.

You've got the whole insult thing down to a "t" - I don't think there is anyone better on the board in that regard, and that's saying something.

Look; you've experienced something that no one here can ever even imagine; I'm not going to diss your experience, or the wisdom & suspicion that the experience rightfully gives you. Personally, I don't think this situation is very comparable to Vietnam, but I respect your right as a vet to think otherwise.

I was one of 9% that opposed Gulf I, and I hated the idea that we invaded Iraq in 2003; I don't care if it was Clinton or Obama or Bush. I was against every one of Clinton's military ventures, as well. I saw a bumpersticker once that said "I'm even against the next war," and that sums up where I'm at. I honestly don't really care that much that this is an "Obama thing." Troops leaving Iraq in large #'s is nothing but a good thing, imo.

If you're right, and there is truly a hidden agenda here, we'll know about it soon enough. Until then, spare me the lectures & condescension. Most particularly, spare me the ham-handed assumptions of hyperpartisanship. Trust me - they make you look like a fool, because you don't know me. You talk like we're all "Joe Liberal"; the world is a little more complex than that.
