50 years of failed eco predictions

Failed? WTF. The signs are everywhere. The climatologists are being proven correct over and over. You can quibble degree if it makes you happy, but the warnings were correct.

So if I told a friend who refuse to wear seatbelt that I predict he'll get hurt or killed if he crashes, and he decided to heed my warning and wear it and crashes and survives, my prediction failed?

:bigthink:
If in 1987 you told him he was going to die in a crash that year and he died in a crash in 2021 . Your prediction absolutely failed. If you predicted he was going to die in an ice storm and he died in a heat wave then your prediction failed.:bigthink:

If I use statistics and data, I can predict it happening at around specific year (or few years in general).

She never said that, sorry. And yes I know what she said.

But nice try. ;)
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., made the remark during an interview with writer Ta-Nehisi Coates at the MLK Now event in New York City celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Ocasio-Cortez called the fight to mitigate the effects of climate change her generation's "World War II."

"Millennials and Gen Z and all these folks that come after us are looking up, and we're like, 'The world is going to end in 12 years if we don't address climate change, and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?' " she said.

Close enough.

:bigthink:

If he still got hurt then it could be said your prediction failed.

You mean if he wore seatbelt? Well I can still predict it using statistics and data.

Actuaries do it all the time.

Yes, that's why cars with airbags are more expensive to insure. Airbags increase the cost of repairs, if possible to do, and they increase the chances a person will survive with injuries meaning more medical costs than paying off the death benefit the policy gives. For insurers, dying is less expensive than having to pay out for a lifetime of medical care...

But the way you worded your statement means if he still got injured your prediction failed.

No I said that if my friend still refuses to wear seatbelt, I predict that he will be injured or dead if he crashes. Extremely low odds of him being okay.
