5 things you need to know about ... Mexican drug lord 'El Chapo' Guzman

How many non Muslim haters are focusing on what's happening in Mexico? I haven't heard Obama or anyone in Congress talk about it. Can't say I've heard any big liberal media voices speak about it either.

That should tell you something, because Mexico is a hotbed for protests and anti-government activity (also citizen militias taking towns from the cartels).

The article was written before his capture but I wanted to post this list. Note the number of deaths he's responsible for. Yet Muslim haters will ignore this and instead focus on what's happening in the ME rather than right across our border.

Who is El Chapo?

Here are 5 things you need to know about Mexico's most powerful -- now escaped -- drug lord:

1. He's responsible for the deaths of at least 70,000 people.

That number is according to Forbes, tracing back his cartel's tie to the Mexican drug violence that has claimed more than 100,000 lives. But he reportedly told Mexican officials, while being transferred to prison, that he'd killed 2,000-3,000.

2. He's worth at least $1 billion

A modern-day Al Capone, only in 2014 after his capture, did Forbes drop Guzman from its list of world's most powerful people. He'd been on the list since 2009, ranking as high as 41st spot. The magazine has also called him the "biggest drug lord of all time."

3. He's escaped before

After he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder and drug trafficking, it didn't take long for Guzman to own the place. He bribed guards and was able to escape his maximum-security prison in 2001. He managed to hide out in his various homes -- all equipped with escape tunnels -- and stayed on the move with his personal fleet of jets, submarines and trains to avoid authorities, and even managed to grow his empire before his recapture in 2014.

4. He's been married several times

First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the women. Tony Montana didn't lie. Guzman has been married at least four times and sired 10 children -- most of whom have followed him into the drug trade. His latest wife is a former teen beauty queen with a U.S. passport. At 5-foot-6 (thus his nickname -- El Chapo means The Shorty), he's no less the romantic. One story tells of his attempt in his younger days at wooing a woman who worked at a village bank by hiring a plane to drop hundreds of flowers on the town. However, he's also known for a love of prostitutes.

5. He's revered by many in Mexico

Because of his vast empire, there were legitimate employment concerns when Guzman was nabbed in 2014. Many considered him as a Robin Hood of poor Mexican villages where his drug operation pumped millions into local economies. "He's helped a lot of people," Jesus Gonzalez, a church caretaker told the L.A. Times in 2014. "(Guzman) has given out a lot of money. He's built many things."

You stated: "The article was written before his capture but I wanted to post this list. Note the number of deaths he's responsible for. Yet Muslim haters will ignore this and instead focus on what's happening in the ME rather than right across our border."

Now WTF does this happens to do with the OBVIOUS world wide Islamic Terrorism occurring DAILY all over the world and apparently ignored or justified by lib idiots like you ????

Actually Bush did but whatever.

LMAO... Bush tried it in conjunction with the Mexican government. Obama restarted a SIMILAR program. One that did not keep the Mexican government in the loop, one that lost a lot of guns, one of which was used to kill a US citizen. Who knows how many Mexicans died as a result of Obama's ineptitude.

Well that's exactly the point. Nowadays news is when Muslims do something wrong, not when any other group does. It gives a slanted view of violence in the world.

It has to do with the fact that there is violence all over the world that isn't specifically Islamic terrorism. Since I actually posted the article about violence in Mexico, I'm not the one who's ignoring other hot spots around the world.

Don't tell me you're one of these dinosaurs who believes the urban legend of creeping Shari'ah?

Are you the ridiculous idiot that you make yourself out to be ?!?! RUCKUS IN MEXICO !?!?!? AS compared to Islamic Terrorism occurring DAILY all over the World ?!?!? What kind of an idiot are you to think that BS of yours is comparable ?!?!? Why not point out a street fight in Denmark and compare that to the Islamic terrorism occurring DAILY in not one.....but NUMEROUS countries in the World you f-ing idiot !!!

When you have Muslim groups or individuals that are attacking and killing U.S. soldiers along with U.S. citizens it's going to draw more attention than cartel violence in Mexico. When you have a Muslim civil war in Syria that is displacing millions, including to the U.S., it's going to draw more attention than Mexico's cartel violence.

We don't live in a perfect world and ultimately each country looks out for it's own interests. Thus groups that say that want to attack us, and do attack us, get more coverage than cartel killings that don't involve us.

If you're talking about Muslims killing US soldiers in US war or those soldiers involved in other countries' wars, that's to be expected. Also in another post I cited that cartels have killed over 5,700 U.S. citizens but nobody's talking about them or memorializing them.

Chill out Raps, you're sounding a bit frenzied. Some of us don't have blinders on regarding violence and the world's a violent place. Do you think what Muslim terrorists do is worse than what any other terrorists do including U.S. terrorists?

Cartels have killed more than 5,700 Americans? You have that link? That's more than the number of soldiers killed in Iraq. I find it difficult to believe foreigners have killed that many Americans and not a word has been said.

That doesn't say (Mexican) cartels killed 5,700. It said the drug war. I'd love to know how many of those would also be considered gang related because there is probably a large overlap.

The drug war gets plenty of coverage in our country so it's not being ignored

Actually it was a link within another article. This is where I originally got the number.

"The cartels’ atrocities are not restricted to the Mexican side of the border. From 2006 to 2010 as many as 5,700 Americans were killed in the U.S. by cartel-fueled drug violence. By contrast, 2,937 people were killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Over the last decade, some 2,349 Americans were killed in Afghanistan, and 4,487 Americans died in Iraq. In four years the cartels have managed to cause the deaths of more Americans than during 9/11 or either of those wars."

The drug war itself isn't ignored but we just don't talk about those criminals or any gangs, for that matter, the same way we talk about Muslims.

We've talked about the war on drugs and its violence for decades. We spend billions of dollars on it. We've locked up thousands of black men over it. It doesn't go ignored.

The U.S. has bee at war in the Middle East for 15 years now. The Arab Spring occurred. There are Muslim groups such as ISIS who would love to destroy America. I'm not understanding this idea that they aren't a priority for our country.

Tell me specifically, how could ISIS destroy America?

Wanting to and doing are two different things. But random terrorists attacks scare people. We've caught numerous people before they could act. Should we end our current vigilance?

The reality is our economy is still run on oil and that's not changing anytime soon so what's happening in the ME does affect us. Having ISIS take over two countries would be very detrimental to our country

Any kind of random attack scares people. Like the Aurora theatre attack or the Sandy Hook elementary attack or the Gabby Giffords attack, to name a few. I myself put the San Bernardino and Boston marathon attacks in the same category as those.

But as far as ISIS full-out attacking us, I don't see it. They need people, weapons, planes, ships just to get to the country. How would all this get past our surveillance?

N. Korea just claimed to detonate an H-bomb and nobody seems to care that they don't like us and are just about as far from the West Coast as the ME is from the East Coast.

ISIS has said they want to attack us. That's the biggest difference. And what happens in Syria does have global implications. And there's a humanitarian crisis.

There is something very wrong with you if you think that the DAILY World Wide Islamic Terrorism can somehow be exonerated with your cartel BS.

You're a very sick lib idiot. You need to see a psychiatrist.
