5 possible Supreme Court picks that could make Republicans squirm

SCOTUS appointments should not be political or indeed for life, it is just plain wrong that a president gets to choose.

Who would appoint the SCOTUS in this imaginary world of yours? And would there be a confirmation? Would there be an "Advise and Consent" moment?

he can only choose someone that can be confirmed by the senate, aka the peoples representatives. checks and balances serf, look it up.

Yeh I know all that, in fact I know a great deal more about the world than you. I will consult you if I need to know about Taco Bell and waffles, not that you even addressed any of my points though. To reiterate, appointments should be discreet, non-political and for fixed terms. But seemingly you lot prefer the circus to the serious, no wonder Armenian big arsed bitches and black obnoxious rappers are so important to you!!

The way it is done in the UK with a panel of judges away from the glare of publicity.

interersting: I noticed this in the link:
The JAC is not responsible for selecting justices of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom although a lay Commissioner does sit on the selection panel
so who picks the Supreme Court? (asking)

Of course you know the reason for life time terms -so SCOTUS judges are not elected, and do not run for office -
and with lifetime appointments able to rule past political cycles, all ofwhich makes them more independent.

Whatever the set up ( UK or USA) -I don't think it's so much the process as the fact the players infuse politics directly into SCOTUS

are you nuts?.......they've been political since the ink was dry on the constitution.......you know, that thing we drew up after we kicked your asses off the continent?......

The Current system the founders gave us is pretty genius. I like it and generally it works well.

I prefer that our Senators and Presidents behave like statesmen and not politicians, but that is up to the voting public at large.

The Supreme Court is just about the right amount of insulated from politics. Because Scalia's death came at just about the worst time to result in a very political process... this nomination will be more political than it should be, but all systems have their flaws.

The current situation has its flaws, but it will be very illuminating... Am I correct that Ted Cruz is on the Judiciary Committee, maybe that is why he does not want hearings?

then stop voting for democrats and republicans in federal elections
Bit difficult considering I live in England!

So... Judges appointed by whom? These secret panels that are not answerable to the people choose judges in the background "discretely" and you think this is somehow better than an open appointment dicussed openly and with advice and consent from the people's representatives?

That doesn't make it less political... It just makes it less open. Like roaches those with the power try to avoid the light of day and work to convince you they should never be held to answer for their decisions and you just nod along?

At least he can't appoint Douglass to the Court, so the worst justice in history remains in the past, where he belongs.
