2012 poll, four years early

Who would you likely support in 2012?

A Palin/Ron Paul ticket.

It would be the only way Ron Paul could ever be president.

If that ticket won, Palin would quit after two years in a huff because of liberal criticism, and Ron would be in the driver's seat.

Good ole Willie Brown, the man is definitely a character but maybe because he is no longer running for office he tells it like it is. Here is his take on Palin from today's paper.

Sarah Palin, political genius

The pundits are wrong. Conventional wisdom is wrong. Sarah Palin's decision to step down as Alaska governor was a brilliant move.

Palin has some of the best political instincts I have ever seen. She became a pop-culture superstar overnight when John McCain made her his veep pick, and she's still second only to President Obama among politicians the public is interested in. Even in liberal San Francisco, she'd be front-page news if she ever came to town.

But that kind of celebrity comes at a high price. What a lot of people don't know is that Palin entered Alaska politics as a reformer attacking the corruption of the state's Republican establishment. As such, she was the darling of the Democrats - until she hooked up with McCain.

After the election, with Palin back home but positioning herself for a 2012 presidential run, it was clear she would catch nothing but ridicule from Alaska's Democrats. It was not going to be pretty.

If Palin wants to play on the national field, she has to be free to move around. She has to be able to drop into Indiana, Ohio or Tennessee and help Republican candidates raise money. She has to be available for radio and TV.

She has to be like Gavin Newsom, free to roam around the country, safe in the knowledge that things will pretty much take care of themselves back home.

Instead, Palin faced the prospect of being constantly pinned down in a state that is a day and a half away from the rest of America. She would have been totally isolated in every sense of the word.

Now she can study up on issues where she is lacking and become a full-time political celebrity.

The pundits call her a quitter, but let's be honest - the pundits never liked her to begin with. Better to take one hit for stepping down and move on than to stay in Alaska and die a death by a thousand cuts.

Governor or not, Palin is still the biggest star in the Republican galaxy. After all, who else have they got?

Every citizen should be proud and follow President Obama's example.

For the most part yes so far DNC.
We have over 3 more years to go though.

One thing for sure I will not support any of the republicans that tried for the job last time.

I prefer Bloomberg for a number of reasons (he's better on free trade and immigration, and unlike Obama is opposed to the death penalty and supports same-sex marriage), but Obama is definitely a close second. If Bloomberg never takes off (or, like last time, decides not to run, which is all but certain if the politically simialar Romney wins the Republican nomination) and Obama is within ten points of winning Mississippi (unlikely), I'll vote for Obama.

LOL

Cawacko, let me help you out here.

Remember when republicans, like Ann Coulter, were singing the praises of Hillary Clinton in the primaries?

It wasn't because they admired Clinton. It wasn't even because they were being honest about how awesome they thought Clinton was.

It was because they were afraid of running against Obama, and thought Clinton was the easier candidate to beat.

I can't say for sure, but I'll bet you a partisan lefty like willie brown is lauding the "genius" of sarah palin because Willie would like nothing better than to see republican nominate this uniformed knuckehead to president. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my take.

I've met Willie a couple of times (since he's been out of office) and sat next to him at a long dinner and the impression I got from him was although he was known for being a partisan liberal while in office he would give his honest opinion on issues and people from a non-partisan perspective. He has written this column in the Sunday Chronicle for close to a year I believe and he seems to praise and blame Republicans and Democrats pretty evenly. It was a surprise to me, and I'm sure others, as Willie has always been known as the partisan.

Now this is not to say you are wrong but I also don't think Willie is saying Palin is going to win the Presidency either. Willie is known for his political ability and skills so he is obviously not some no-name off the street so I'm sure he appreciates good political manuvering when he feels he sees it.

My impression of Willie from meeting him and reading his weekly column for the past year is that he is no longer in 'partisan attack mode' and is in more of a 'call it like I see it' place.

Fair enough. I'll take your word for it. If he and you think Palin is a genius, more power to ya.

p.s. high five for meeting willie, cawacko! way cool....

One of those hand on the leg dinners?

LOL

I think
1) Willie is a ladies man.
2) Willie's not a republican, and probably wouldn't exhibit represssed and perverted gay tendencies. He would just be out of the closet with it, if he were gay.

Willie Brown may like Palin a bit, but he's not going to vote for her. Keep that in mind before you jump to the conclusion that she all of the sudden has massive broad-spectrum support.

He didn't say she was a genius. He said her political move was genious. There's a big difference. I'm an idiot and even I've done a couple of genious things.

Willie was very cool and has a million stories. He wins you over with his personality. I'm sure it didn't hurt that I told him I voted for him twice for mayor (which I did).

Get out of here! You voted for Willie?

Cawacko, you just earned one thousand cool points.

Your right, he said she was a political genius. Not an intellectual genius. My sentence was poorly written.

Nobody in their right mind, except for Dixie, think's Palin is playing with a full deck upstairs.

Damn, did you not read the article? Willie said nothing about supporting her. He spoke strictly about her leaving the Governorship (sp) of Alaska and that he thought it was a good political move.

Is the idea really that foreign that you can't observe something someone does and make a positive comment about it if it isn't someone you support?

I didn't vote for Obama but that doesn't mean I can't say I think something he did was an excellent political move or say something positive about him. I do not understand this 'must only attack', 'must only attack', 'must only attack' mindset.

Well before you give me that high five remember in San Francisco there are no Republicans so all races are Dem. vs. Dem. or Dem. vs. Green. Willie is a liberal but he was also pro-growth and I work in commercial real estate so I was a fan of his policies there.

I also not only voted for Gavin Newsom I donated the maximum $500 to his campaign. I've never donated to a Republican. Newsom was running against a anti-growth Green party candidate (who damn near won).

I throw that all out in the interest of full disclosure. :)

LOL, oh yeah, how cool is San Francisco when the "conservative" canidate is Willie Brown. Ha!

Dude, I had the same dilema when I lived in Texas. Some of the local races didn't have a green or democrat candidate. So my choice was some religious rightwing nut job, or a libertarian.

I usually just wrote in Bernie Sanders. :cof1:
