20 Republican-led states threaten legal action against DHS's Ministry of Truth

Since 2016, Republicans have been fierce defenders of misinformation, and for the right to tell as many lies as they want.

Says the people who gave us the Russian Collusion lie, who lied about Hunter's laptop, who lied about vote farming, who still lie about what will happen if Roe V Wade is overturned, who seem to give us nothing but misinformation all the time, mostly about us. The Gaslighting Democrat Party.

Remember Avenatti? He had the "goods on Trump" and was going to put him in jail... He cried like a baby when he was convicted and got 30 months for Embezzling and Extortion... Just another democrat liar, lying his way to fame, 254 appearances on CNN... because misinformation is what they give us. He also has more criminal trials coming up... Lovely example of how the "Ministry of 'Disinformation'" is going to work. His sentencing got 17 seconds and those were only on ABC....

When Trump moved a bust of MLK to another place in the Oval Office these same people told us he "removed" the Bust entirely (a lie)...

The idea that this kind of nonsense needs to be codified and stamped with Federal Approval and the left argues that it isn't unconstitutional just tells me that they've gone batcrap crazy. Literally out of their fricking MINDS...

They deem it "un-American" and chilling to the free speech of Americans.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares is leading GOP attorneys general in sending a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Thursday demanding that the department "cease taking action" contributing to a "chilling effect" on free speech.

"This is an unacceptable and downright alarming encroachment on every citizen’s right to express his or her opinions, engage in political debate, and disagree with the government," write the 20 attorneys general in a letter exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital.

The Republicans raise concern with the timing of the board's creation, saying it comes after the Biden administration has "flagged problematic posts" on social media and worked with Big Tech companies and the private sector to take down "misinformation" off its platforms.

Suddenly, just as Elon Musk prepares to acquire Twitter with the stated purpose of correcting the platform’s censorship of free speech, you announce the creation of the Disinformation Governance Board. As the Biden Administration apparently loses a critical ally in its campaign to suppress speech it deems "problematic," you have created a new government body to continue that work within the federal government," says the letter to Mayorkas.

"The contemporaneous occurrence of these two events is hard to explain away as mere coincidence. It instead raises troubling questions about the extent of the Biden Administration’s practice of coordinating with private-sector companies to suppress disfavored speech."

The attorneys general also state that "no statutory authority" exists to support the creation of the board, making it illegal.

They also take issue with the executive director of the board, Nina Jankowicz, who they say is "often in error but never in doubt," pointing to her previous suggestions that Hunter Biden's laptop was a product of a disinformation campaign and that the COVID-19 lab-leak theory was invented to help former President Trump politically.

Republican members of the House Homeland Security Committee also wrote a letter to Mayorkas Thursday, demanding DHS provide basic information to the committee including the disinformation board's organization, members, schedule and recommendations.

Not really new other than given an official title, the same effort was done during the prior Administration and its purpose to monitor foreign efforts to interfere in political and business interests, you don't think even the Trump team were watching foreign activity?

Russian interaction with the Trump campaign wasn't a lie, Mueller documented over 125 meetings between the two entities, nobody lied about the laptop, rather that told the truth that the laptop wasn't the smoking gun that the right wing media were attempting to portray it as, and the only really evidence regarding voting fraud was done by those on the right

When you start your post with debunked innuendos it is pretty difficult to take the rest of it as noteworthy

I think some Democrats might be standing up against that thing shortly..at least I'd like to think so.

Ooo..I just found this tidbit:

Could you give us a sampling of those, some of the worst?

Sure. Trump is recorded saying that he purposefully downplayed a pandemic. "Caravans at the border" and all of the immigration dishonesty. All of the BS about the recent SCOTUS nominee's past rulings. It goes on & on.

But, of course, the biggest is the Big Lie - all of the election fabrications, conspiracy theories, false stories, imaginary claims. That's the worst, most persistent, and most destructive.

An argument could be made that all conservatives actually do is lie now. Very little truth from that side.

Downplaying something isn't "lying" particularly if you say you were doing it for specific reasons.

There are caravans coming regularly to the border and many are organized by radical Leftist groups like Pueblos sin Fronteras

Who's Pueblo Sin Fronteras, the group behind the migrant caravan that drew Trump's ire?

Meet One of the Caravan’s Main Organizers, Pueblo Sin Fronteras

What other immigration "dishonesty" are you talking about?

I have no idea what you mean by "All of the BS about the recent SCOTUS nominee's past rulings..."

The concerns some have about the 2020 election have some basis in at least theory, if not in fact.

I had no doubt at all that you would respond and try to debunk all of the factual, verifiable examples I listed.

It's always so predictable on here. You can say the sky is blue, and posters will respond "well, only sometimes, and it depends on what your definition of blue is...."

What factual, verifiable examples have you given? I didn't see any so far...

Everything I listed. I just rolled my eyes when the 1st thing you said was "downplaying something isn't lying particularly."

Of course it is - and it absolutely is misinformation. It created a false impression among the public - the whole thing w/ COVID "magically disappearing." It's the ultimate in hairsplitting if you try to say that isn't lying, when he knew better, and even told Woodward he knew better.

If you can't call someone on a lie, it's not worth having this discussion.

And as for the election lies - please. I could spend a day on here. I could list hundreds.

You are insane if you think a politician, any politician, faced with a serious public crisis like Fauci Plague or 9/11 should go to the public and tell the unvarnished truth even if it causes panic. You're an idiot if you think that. Of course, Trump or any politician would downplay the seriousness of something like that. Remaning upbeat and confident is important.

It's a pandemic, and we're adults. Downplaying it served no purpose. No one was going to "panic" if they knew the truth (most did even w/ Trump lying). It's actually impossible for healthcare professionals to do their jobs when someone is telling them not to believe the reality.

It's pretty obvious that you're just going to try to play defense for conservatives on this one. Nothing you have posted refutes that Republicans have been massive purveyors of misinformation over the past few years.

Obama didn't try to hide similar outbreaks.

In fact, he took specific action to avoid another one.

trump immediately did his best (with quite a bit of success) to end that direct action when he brought dozens of scientists home from China long before the pandemic.

You are correct. Most in the nation are adults, and would rather have the facts.

I mean, to try to imply that Trump HAD to lie because we just couldn't handle the truth as a populace. It's incredible.
It's better than the truth. His delusions control his every action. He was taught to never admit any failure by his abusive father. A pandemic under his watch was a failure in his eyes, so he lied about it for as long as he could. His advisors begged him to do the right thing.

Exactly right on this - which is also the impetus for the Big Lie.

You see the pattern throughout Trump's career - both in private & public life. He set up lies ahead of time, just in case there is a perception of failure. He set up the "massive fraud" lie before both the 2016 & 2020 elections, just in case he lost. He used it both times; in 2016, only because he lost the popular vote. Which his ego simply could not handle.

Yep. In '20 he started whining about the fraud in the mail in ballots in July. In '16, he started the lie early on because he knew he would lose, and wanted to lay the groundwork for playing the martyr on his new radio show that would rival Infowars.

He couldn't even get that right, when he accidentally won the election. Idiot tried to use the same ploy as an incumbent.

In NY, we already saw that ploy for decades as he flapped his jowls on t.v. about his grand successes in the casino industry. All the while getting his ass kicked. Perhaps the most visible was when he needed Merv Griffin to bail him out, and then went on t.v. and bragged about outsmarting the old man and stealing his money.

You know...the guy who created Wheel Of Fortune/Jeopardy.
