100,000 believed to have coronavirus in Ohio, number projected to double every six day

I think we are going to have huge pockets all over the place. I think next week is going to be ugly. In the meantime, WE still can't get test kits down here.

Jackson Memorial, associated with UNIV of MIA school of medicine, this morning, said they had SEVERAL thousand available through a state or commercial lab--but they couldn't cut through the red tape to start administering them. The MD blamed it on the CDC.

So stop the primaries, call off the election and put all the suspects into concentration camps!

This would be a weird thing to see with your eyes.

So is the left just going to keep hitting the panic button for the next few months or what?
Mainly older people with weakened immune systems will be getting sick...FACT!
We know this already. :palm:

Not just older people, the young as well. The GF's grandkid (he's 15) was just diagnosed with the flu.
The hospital the GF works at has a number of flu cases who are being hospitalized and given fluids to recover.
NONE have this coronavirus, they're different strains of the flu...

Yep...it's flu season....
I saw the press conference...the Dr. lives in our hood;)
I'll keep everyone posted....so far, I don't know anyone who's got the Corona...;)

BTW, the governor is a Republican. That's a buzzkill for Trumptards here.

The death toll is more morbid but at least we don’t have to guess at it.

This morning it creeped up to 48. That’s an *exceedingly* modest number for a disease that’s supposedly presents some sort of existential threat to a country of over 300 million people.

And what about Washington State? Shouldn’t they be getting ravaged by now? Washington got their first case in *January* and as of now they have 457 cases in Washington across 13 counties, including 31 deaths.

I googled Washington because I was interested to see if their healthcare system was being ‘overwhelmed’ or not. Couldn’t find much so I ran some numbers myself.

457 cases spread across 13 counties. Each county is going to have several hospitals on average and that’s likely a conservative estimate.

So roughly 30 hospitals to serve 450 COVID cases. But keep in mind that not every case represents a patient since the vast majority of cases are relatively mild. Mild cases get quarantined, stay at home and ride it out. Go with a 10% admission rate and that’s 45 patients spread across 30 hospitals. That should be fairly manageable. Keep in mind this is in the heart of the COVID ‘war zone’.

But wait, is the 450 cases have or had? Might have to find that out because if that’s the total number of cases they’ve had—since January, then our work is done here. There’s no hospital bed-crisis worth talking about.

At any rate, the 100,000 OH COVID cases is a guess because it can’t be anything else without testing. I can drive deep into OH in a couple hours from where I’m sitting in WV and WV has zero known cases. WV is last in everything lol. 100,000 COVID cases in OH and zero right across the Ohio River in WV? Something doesn’t add up.

But ok, maybe there really are that many cases in OH. It’s going to be a ‘so, what?’ pretty soon if some numbers don’t start jumping up.

A lot.

I sure hope you're right. Give it 8 weeks. A Chinese billionaire is donating 500,000 testing kits to us. And Italy is a ghost town.

Italy has an aging population so COVID will hit it harder than a lot of places.

Mortality statistics show an average age of 80 for victims who succumb to the virus. Nursing homes should be on absolute lock down. But if you keep things in perspective, the COVID numbers aren’t all that impressive as compared to prior outbreaks.

Parts of Washington State are at the leading edge of the process so their numbers are going to top out first—and probably fairly soon. And what do they show? 31 deaths from COVID-19 in a large state. Pretend it’s the plain flu and those numbers aren’t newsworthy even IN Washington State.

Testing kits are great because information is great. But what’s going to happen is the more people who get tested the more it will raise the number of cases. But it will also increase the size of the denominator in the mortality rate equation—and that will drive the mortality rate down.

Just based on raw data one could surmise a low mortality rate. Not to be morbid, but more people should be dying—a lot more, if the mortality rate of this virus is 3.5%—and that just simply isn’t the case. Given it’s been declared a national epidemic, COVID-19 is remarkable for its *lack* of lethal effects.

Critics say ‘well, it’s just getting started’. No, it’s not. It’s been in Washington State since December and they only count *31 deaths* from it. It may be just getting started in other regions, but there’s every reason to believe it will follow the same pattern as Washington State.

massive democratic hoax?

You just think about that," he mused. "We are in some tough times in Ohio. And, it's very, very important for us to do everything we can do slow this down."

DeWine said he knew that actions like closing schools had other consequences, but that the goal is to avoid encountering problems like "the situation" in Italy.

Yeah every time someone sneezes, they have the bug. (Could be the fact that the powers that be allowed testing samples to be distributed that have shown up to an 80% false positive?) Strange is the fact that Ohio's next door neighbor has not reported one case of the supposed killer bug. Just keep up the fear mongering......hot weather is coming and the end to this nonsense. While a hand full of aged individuals (majority over 80yrs.) have died because of a bug called coronavirus.....Over 8 thousand US citizens have died from the common flu bug since Jan. 2020

The only bright side to this fear pandemic...….watching the elite hemorrhage money while the price of crude plummets. I will not be long until gas is well under 2 bucks a gallon.

Question? Can you name anyone that you know that has actually died from this bug? :dunno: The last information available......as of 2 days ago, NATIONWIDE......41 people have died from this bug. Divide 41 into 300,000,000. That's some Pandemic. :bigthink:

Better run out and get your TP.

Reporting that soldiers are now sick, is not pushing a panic button. That right-wing meme is very stale already. The point of this board is to discuss and argue what is happening. We are getting more and more reports of coronaviruses cases every day. That is a fact. So in order to not be slamming a panic button, we should simply ignore the cases and hide.

Yeah. I know that, too. There will be more before we have less. Recovery in those under 60 with basic good health, no underlying health issues
and healthy immune systems will pull through. It takes 2 to 3 weeks. Other countries who had their initial high levels of the virus are now leveling off
and so will we. It's come our way now. Go live your life.

Yup. Viruses doesn't thrive well in heat and humidity. First time in my life that I'm glad about the humidity here in FL!
