Because something is open and candid doesn't make it lurid but book banners always see it that way, which says more about them than the books. Books have been wrongly banned as "pornographic" at least since Lady Chatterly's Lover in the 1920's. The difference now is just the intensity of the banning efforts. Probably the most notorious of the current crop of feared books is Gender Queer. It is graphic but not lurid, and it is plain stupid to think anything useful is done by shielding it from the eyes of teenagers.

Your other criticisms are not responsive, which is fine. I wouldn't expect them to be.
