Socialist Hollande defeats conservative Nicolas Sarkozy to be France's president

Young members in the workforce replacing seniors is irrelevant if France moves in the direction of Spain and places all those young people on welfare to be professional students.

Spain's problems stem mostly from a huge housing and cheap credit bubble that has burst, does that sound familiar?

Also, if anyone remembers the political fallout from 3/11 in Spain, it led to the accession of Zapatero and the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (Nazis) until last Christmas.

Don't get too excited, Apple, Europe just traded one asswhole socialist for another. If Spain is still on the map, perhaps France can survive as well...

There are changes that can be made quite easily. Take housing, for example. While many cities complain about a housing "crisis" virtually every city has areas with low density housing. When a home comes up for sale the government can purchase it, either demolish it or renovate it to incorporate a number of smaller living units or possibly build an apartment building on the lot depending on size. The units will sell and the government will recoup the money.

Now, I'm sure the neighbors will complain but who are the neighbors? Well, they're the wealthy ones who don't feel it's their responsibility to help those who can't afford a place to live. You know the attitude, "Every man for himself." So, that's how the game will be played. They own their house but they don't own the house next door and guess what's going to be build next door. :) Fair is fair.

"Places all those young people on welfare to be professional students?" 50+% unemployment for 16-24 year olds and 22% unemployment generally will do that. Austerity rocks!

You are completely detached from reality.

"National budgets are NOT decreasing their spending, they are increasing it," the EU says, noting that in 2011, 23 of the 27 nations in the EU increased spending. This year, 24 of 27 will do so.

I know it sucks when the data shows you are once again being blinded by your partisan masters... but it is something you will have to come to terms with.

The data actually shows that of the 17 member countries in the Eurozone, government spending as a percentage of GDP was down in 14 of them. The exceptions are Cyprus, Malta and Slovenia. Austerity was particularly harsh in the PIIGS. And this doesn't include the UK or additional cuts to date in 2012 and expected in the future.

Oh you read the data?

Sf isn't going to like that...

It's laughable to argue that there is no austerity in Europe. Apparently, it's the biggest liberal media conspiracy since the moon landing.

I know. I just ignore him when he gets on stuff like this, I can't deal with his random caps and incrementally more furious posts until he explodes. I give you a lot of credit for doing it.
