Socialist Hollande defeats conservative Nicolas Sarkozy to be France's president

Incorrect. Spain had actual budget surpluses in 2005, 2006 and 2007 after running modest deficits from 2000-2004. Not fairy tales. Actual budget surpluses.

I'm not an advocate of dissolving the Euro, so I don't see your point here, SF. If the Euro dissolves, the countries that cannot borrow will have to inflate. Like I said, not rocket surgery.

Surely what will happen will be that they reinstate their former currencies which results in an effective currency devaluation. A concrete example is Greece which has been losing out big time to Turkey in recent years as a tourist destination.

Again Dung... do try to pay attention this time... did they have ACTUAL surpluses? While it is nice that they BUDGETED them... did they actually stick to the budget Dung? Did their national debt decrease in those years?

Like I stated Dung... that is always the way with your spend spend spend types. Once you spend too much, you devalue the currency so you can start spending again. You never learn your lesson. You prefer to continually hammer the poor and middle class with your nonsense while letting the rich protect themselves.

"Just imagine what would happen here if we told everyone they could retire on government pensions at the age of 60.

Umm, the job market would open up dramatically for recent college grads? So you'd have 60 yo's on SS, and young people at work.

Yeah, that would be terrible. Imagine how it would decimate consumer spending...

So a fresh college grad can replace 4 decades of experiences?

My sister-in-law lived here in Florida with three kids. She moved to France as a one year get away to expose the kids to a new culture, that was three years ago and they have not even thought of returning. They LOVE it, she says the schools are so much better and she and her husband have better jobs.

There is something to be said for the European social welfare model. I don't think I'd like it (I value my independence, large living quarters, and gas-guzzling vehicle too much), but it seems to work for them just fine.

Young members in the workforce replacing seniors is irrelevant if France moves in the direction of Spain and places all those young people on welfare to be professional students.
