Why did it make me laugh? Not sure other than I thought it was funny. I think the pictures speak for themselves.
I guess I don't get or appreciate this kind of humor.

Probably because it was intended as somewhat of an insult to liberals so that is understandable.
My sister married a guy who has mixed parents half white/half black. Her kids are technically black although all have different skin tones. One girl is white as can be. I laugh looking at her thinking someone that white can legitimately call herself black. I think its funny.

I can laugh at myself and in fact, I do all of the time. I don't think you can be a funny person, or even a particularly pleasant person to be around if you can't laugh at yourself. And anyone IRL who knows me would definitely say I can laugh at myself and I can take a joke.
So I don't feel you are right about this.

It's not super funny, but worth a chuckle. It's an attack on the idea that other people have to apply labels to skin color and ethnicity.
